Re: Paul Kirui Blog
Hope there is an update soon. I have been keeping an eye out, but nothing since Saturday. He is probably in the middle of them with his camera, hopefully.

Re: Paul Kirui Blog
Got the following message from Paul yesterday through PM Messaging on FB :-
"Hi Lynn, thanks for message :) good to hear from you. You are most welcome back to Kenya. I will be working with a filming crew when you will be staying at Mara Intrepids, and we may bump into each other on game drive. I was with Aatish recently and i have just spoken to him and he says he is coming back for 3 weeks in the Mara: so we might all meet!
The weather has been cold and we just got a weeks forecast saying we may continue with the same low temperatures in the morning, but we hope it will be ok when you come"
Errrr more heat and less cold please !!!
Wonder what kind of 'filming crew' he's going to be with ???? I will go and ask !

Lai we've always taken a fair bit of clothes for first thing in the morning and peel them off accordingly as and when required I'm not jesting when I say I could have 4/5 layers of clothes when we're setting out !!! You must be thick skinned if you don't need that much

Re: Paul Kirui Blog
Paul has just posted on Facebook that there are four new males in Marsh Pride territory. They have already mated with Bibi (not good news for her cub then) Joy and her 4 cubs have been running away. Clawed and Romeo are no where in sight. Maybe then have left as they know they won't be able to defend against 4 young males.
Sad for them all end of an era, but it's nature.

Not good news at all AM. Hopefully Joy and the cubs will survive, but like you fear with new males moving in that the cubs will be killed.

Sorry AM, didn't see that you've posted the above - I've also put info to this effect on Jacksons thread as I was talking about Chezza & Sala fm FB so mentioned re the possible Marsh Pride takeover.
Everything possible crossed that even if there is a takeover that the babies are all ok

Re: Paul Kirui Blog
PK has posted a very sad photo of Clawed on his FB Page. He was badly injured by the new males that have moved into the Marsh over the last 4 days. Paul doubts that he will make it as he can barely move and is in great pain Poor, poor Clawed
Yesterday the nomads were at the marsh again, Romeo was at Bilashaka about 3km away

Re: Paul Kirui Blog
Thats sad, as I was saying on Jacksons thread, not a surprise though. Jonathen Scott said in the Truth about Lions, that he did'nt think Romeo & Claude could hang on much longer to the Marsh Pride as they were well over due for a take over, and he wondered if the Cubs would have time to grow up. I hope they do though.
As you said AM the end of an era, and thats really sad for Romeo, and poor old Claude who would have had no chance at all, but the Marsh Pride goes on

Update from Paul on his Blog:
http://paul-kirui.blogspot.com/2011/10/new-males-taking-over-marsh-pride.html
Not happy reading and a couple of sad pictures of Clawed, I'm really quite upset about this all especially after just seeing them

Re: Paul Kirui Blog
Those photos of Clawed are really sad. He looks in such a bad way, and in so much pain. I hope it ends for him soon. Fingers X that Joy can keep the cubs out of the newcomers reach, it's all rather desperate at the moment. Thanks for the update Doogs

Re: Paul Kirui Blog
You're right Doogs, certainly not happy reading ... and as much as we all knew it was coming sooner rather than later its very hard to take. Especially, as you say, after spending time with them.
Its just such a horrible way for them to go, it may sound silly but am so proud of them for trying to defend their pride and territory against 4 young strong males. In Clawed's case, he fought to the bitter end! I just wish he could have found some shade.
I hope Joy manages to keep her cubs out of harms way (I'm thinking these must be the cubs we saw so much, about 5-6 months old)

Re: Paul Kirui Blog
It's not silly AM, I think they are incredibly brave to take on 4 lions, especially the state Clawed was in before these males came on the scene.
Yeah Joy's cubs are about 6 monhs old so I'm sure, like us, you saw them when you were there last month.

Re: Paul Kirui Blog
What a great update, I really love knowing that Joy and the cubs are safe and well, and I'm just so thrilled that we saw her and her 4 cubs and Sienna's 1 cub - even if we couldn't tell who some of the rest of the Marsh Pride were!
Thanks Doogs.

Re: Paul Kirui Blog
Great update thanks Doogs. Nice to know Joy's still doing OK, and looking after the Cubs. All that time away with her other Cubs will stand her in good stead this time I think
