Nowzad Dogs - Chosen Charity
Nowzad Dogs - The Forums Chosen Charity
Nowzad Dogs is the chosen charity of wildaboutanimals. It is a charity that well deserves recognition and support. We will not be raising money on site for Nowzad Dogs but their site has donate buttons that you can add your support to should you wish.Nowzad Dogs Mission statement.
To relieve the suffering of animals, predominantly stray and abandoned dogs, in need of care, attention and to provide and maintain rescue facilities for the care and treatment of such animals, especially the dogs of Afghanistan.
I first came across Nowzad Dogs when I read the book One Dog at a Time written by Pen Farthing. The book tells the remarkable true story of how one man saved the stray dogs of Afghanistan. It is a book that will touch your heart forever.
Pen arrived in the war torn town of Now Zad in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2006. He was appalled by the horrors of local dog fighting and the amount of stray dogs struggling to survive in this war torn town. One dog in particular finds his way into the Marine compound and into Pen's heart and soon other strays are being drawn into the sanctuary of Pens makeshift pound, including one pregnant young mum who crawls under the compound fence carrying her newborn pups to safety.
The book is about Pen's gripping account of his time in Now Zad, the friends he made there and the remarkable journey they - and he - undertook. Above all, it is a story of one man's courage and humanity and his fight to make a difference in the most hostile and dangerous environments - One Dog at a Time.
On his return to Scotland Pen now runs and manages the Nowzad Dogs Charity, where all charitable monies goes towards saving and relieving the suffering of the dogs. The charity has grown enormously but continualy needs support and as the charity has evolved they are now helping to save and rescue the cats of Afghanistan.
Animals do not choose to live in such dangerous war torn circumastances, Pen has worked tirelessly to help save and rescue many dogs but continued support is required at all times and that is why this site has chosen to help promote the charity. wildaboutanimals is not connected to the charity, we are just trying to offer support for a very worthy charity that relies entirely on donations from kind hearted animal lovers.

What a story - quite amazing and how lovely that the dog will have a happy home now instead of what might have happened!

Re: Nowzad Dogs - Chosen Charity
Here is the latest newsletter from Nowzad Dogs. It's written in February but we have to remember they are busy with rescues and all the planning that goes with rescuing dogs and cats from such a dangerous area. It gives you a good run down on what has been happening.
Enjoy the read.

Lai it will surely make you cry, but also make you smile, you won't regret ordering it. Once you have read it you will see why I had to make this our chosen charity, it will grab your heart too, it was a book I just couldn't put down and stop thinking about after I had read it.
If it's One Dog at a Time you've ordered thats a really good price, I brought the hardback when it first came out. Let me know when you've read it and what you think.

SAFARI MAIDENS JUSTGIVING PAGE LINK
As you are all aware, Nowzad Dogs is wildaboutanimals chosen charity. It is a charity that is deserving and needs lots of support. We are therefore incredibly happy if anyone on site has fundraising events for Nowzad that we can post and support on site.
I am so pleased to be able to announce that Safari Maiden has started raising funds for Nowzad through a sponsored weight loss. SM has her reasons for doing this which she explains on her justgiving page.
SM and I are an independent team who have our own fundraising organisation and obviously after making Nowzad Dogs this forums chosen charity, we both felt we had to support them as much as we possibly could through our own organisation and with our own hard efforts.
SM is hoping that for the dogs and cats of Nowzad you will offer up your support and donate to her justgiving page. SM will be incredibly happy with whatever you can afford, little, medium, large or huge, it all adds up and goes to a very worthy cause.
SM is giving up Chocolate, triffles, biscuits, cream, ice cream, all the yummy stuff for the dogs and cats, so please, please support her if you can.
SM explains her story on her justgiving page and she is very determined to do this, so again please support her if you can.
heres the link to her justgiving page.

Re: Nowzad Dogs - Chosen Charity
I've just finished the first book - for anyone who hasn't read it yet, it is a wonderful true story, it really gives you hope that there are people out there willing to risk so much for stray dogs. It made me laugh, and of course it made me cry. I have just ordered Pen Farthing's next one which is out in July and i can't wait.
This really is such a worthwhile charity so GO SM GO - we're all right there with you

Re: Nowzad Dogs - Chosen Charity
Lai thank you for posting this. I am going to see if i can rally some troups here to do a sponsored walk, if not I will do one with Nero. Manchester is too far for me to come and join with you and Tamu at the Mutt Strutt, but we have a long coastline here in the South so I am sure a long walk along the beach is going to be good fun, I will start organising tomorrow, but whatever, Nero and I will be doing it for Nowzad

Re: Nowzad Dogs - Chosen Charity
Brilliant Littlewid - I guess they will be all over the country, it's a shame we don't all live a bit closer together, we could have a WAA team
Should be a fun couple of hours and Tamu will love the 'Mutt Strutt' - especially the goodie bag she gets at the end of it
