Re: Ban Wild Animals in Circus's Petition
Signed a couple of days ago.
I think the whole DEFRA consultation was a complete waste of time and MONEY! over 90% of the people wanted a ban and they ignored the majority, but then I suppose this is typic and should not have been so surprised by the results.

Re: Ban Wild Animals in Circus's Petition
E-mail received today from Born Free Foundation

Dear Supporters and Friends
Once in a while, a rare opportunity arises where our elected representatives can demonstrate their commitment to animal welfare in Parliament in a way that can affect real and lasting change. We believe that Thursday 23rd June 2011 will be just such an opportunity.
On that day, a debate and vote will be held in Parliament on whether the use of wild animals in travelling circuses should be banned in England. We firmly believe that such a ban should be put in place as a matter of priority, and our view is shared by the RSPCA, the British Veterinary Association and many other responsible animal welfare organisations.
That is why I would like to ask each and every one of you to contact your MP, as soon as you can - by email, phone, or fax - and ask them to attend the debate on Thursday 23rd June and to vote in support of a ban on the use of wild animals in circuses.
You can find details on how to contact your MP here: www.writetothem.com
Remember, a ban is overwhelmingly supported throughout the land. It is also the policy of both the Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats and it’s the view held by numerous other Members of Parliament, including leading Conservatives such a Zac Goldsmith, Mark Pritchard, Roger Gale, Nicholas Soames and representatives of the Green Party, the SDLP, the DUP, Plaid Cymru and the Scottish National Party.
Along with other experts from Born Free and the other groups, I will be present from 2pm in the Boothroyd Room, Portcullis House, Westminster, at a briefing session for MPs prior to the debate. Please feel free to pass on my personal invitation to your MP if he or she would like to meet me and discuss the issue.
With warmest wishes to you all and thanks for your help and support.
Virginia McKenna OBE

Re: Ban Wild Animals in Circus's Petition
Thanks for the Link Lai. I've sent an emai to our MP, highlighting the pain of Anne the Elephant, and what happens to Animals in the Circus. I also said that there were reports that this legislation would be blocked, because of Human rights issues of stopping people working, and asking what about Animals rights to live the life they were born to live.

From the Mail Online today
Pity it's going to take two years, but at least its a Ban, and the pressure from everyone shows what can be done

At least its a ban. Shame its going to take two years but its better than nothing at all. I'm so disappointed its taken this long to get this result.
Doesn't Anne look like a completely different ele now, such a transformation and really does prove that animals don't belong in circuses!!

Re: Ban Wild Animals in Circus's Petition
I heard it on the radio today and was delighted, sadly didn't realise it was two years away! Why on earth can't they implement the ban with immediate effect, two years is a life of misery for these wild animals.

Re: Ban Wild Animals in Circus's Petition
This is good news and long overdue. So 2 good things have come out of what happened to poor Anne - she's now being loved and cared for much better than when she was in the circus and a total ban on animals being used in the circus
It does say the ban will come into force within 2 years so hopefully it will be sooner as opposed to two years later

Heard this on the radio, but also that strict legislation will be put in place quickly until the Ban is law. Fingers crossed. We will see.

Thanks everyone - I know this is one we all support 100% and the sooner a law gets passed to stop animals in circuses the better.
