Spring Salmon
I know fish aren't cute and cudly, but the British Spring Salmon is a rare beast indeed.
I always assumed a Salmon was a Salmon, but it seems not,Spring running fish breed in different places to Autumn run fish, they never mix.Not a different species, but they do have different requirements it seems and the Spring fish is under great threat.
It is very pleasing to report that all is not doom and gloom,in Scotland at least. The local angling associations are returning all fish and the boards are compensating the netsmen to leave their nets on the shore.Result is that lots of fish are seen running the rivers and people who have been on the river for most of their lives report that things are getting better.
Sea Trout too are having some support,so although the fish are under pressure on their feeding grounds off the Iceland/Greenland shores,we hope that the future for our migratory fish is relatively safe at the moment.
Of course it's not just us anglers that reap the reward, local Seal and Killer Whale populations, along with Otters all benefit from the replenished stocks,so man is at least trying to address the problem.

Re: Spring Salmon
They may not be cute and cuddly TB but they are still wildlife and interesting to learn about.
Good news for the British Spring Salmon and the Sea Trout - perhaps we are at last learning to look after our planets creatures.
Thanks for the info.

Re: Spring Salmon
That really is good news TB, and shows that Anglers, and the Boards realise the importance of conserving, and promoting healthy fish stocks before its to late. In the end it benifits everyone, including the wildlife. Thank heavens for some responsible human beings.
Thanks for letting us know

Re: Spring Salmon
I read and saw a picture the other day of fishermen and Salmon and it said that all the catch was returned to the sea and that pleased me so to read your post is good news too TB. It is heartwarming to know that man is doing his bit. Animals don't have to be cute and cuddly to care and fish deserve the same respect and protection as all the cuddlies. Thanks for the information TB
