Re: Masai Mara Safaris
Had another email from Aatish. With news of another Leopard with Cubs
Hi WS,
Yes i am very very excited to be back in the mara. Dont know if you know but there is another leopard called LORIAN who has got two new cubs as well and were spotted yesterday in the mara. That is my main aim of this safari.
To be honest i was lucky enough to get back to nairobi last week just before the snow and horrible weather started so i was pretty happy. think i was very lucky.
Regards
Aatish

Re: Masai Mara Safaris
Thanks for the update WS - yes Jackson mentioned Lorian on FB and on his blog. She is a beautiful leopard we were lucky enough to see her back in December 2008. It's such great news that she has two cubs with her. Paul Kirui also posted some photos of her in his FB album.

Looking forward to some updates from Aatish on his blog, always a good read and always has brilliant pictures
I also saw the news about Lorain on FB, it's wonderful that both she and Olive have little ones at the moment
I asked Jackson the other day on FB if he knew the sexes of Singo's little ones. He said he didn't but would let us know next time he sees them. Will let you know when I do

Re: Masai Mara Safaris
I'm sure I've read somewhere that Shingo's cubs are 4 boys and 2 girls. Now I have no idea where I would have read this, but I'll do some research when my boss disappears for lunch and see if I can find it.
Lovely to hear about so many Leopard cubs. How long do they stay with Mum for? I'm getting so excited at the prospect of spotting some of these lovely cats with cubs (all be it, bigger cubs by then)
Looking forward to reading Aatish's updates.

Re: Masai Mara Safaris
That would be good if you could verify that AM - Honey's Boys could have some rivals soon
They will all still be with mum when we're there next year 'cause they will only be about 9/10 months old (did you know we'll be in the Mara 08-13/09/10 ??). Leopards tend to stay with their mother for 18-24 months.
Read with great interest on Paul Kirui's FB Page today that one of Lorian's (the Mara leopard) cubs was in danger this morning, when the jackals almost killed it ! The mother had moved the other cub to a different location, leaving the other one on its own. That was when the jackals came and almost killed it ! The Rangers are now watching over until the mother gets back. Paul said "he couldnt help to see it killed so called in the Rangers (against other peoples opinion) they responded very fast and warded off the jackals and are now watching over the cubs".
I know if he hadn't been there nature may have taken it's course but these babies are so precious and I say well done Paul on helping to look after that little one

I agree Doogs - I know we shouldnt interfere with nature but sometimes it is necessary. Here's hoping that little cub is okay and safe.

Re: Masai Mara Safaris
oh I do hope that little cub is safe and that Lorian comes back for it. Might she have been scared off with the jackals there and rangers keeping watch? Oh these poor cats do have it tough
I agree with you both Doogs and Lai. I think at the minute it is necessary, all these animals are precious and in danger so we need to save as many of them as we can!
Doogs, you arrive in the Mara a day after we leave!! I think we may be inundating this site with pictures when we get back. Fingers crossed we both get to see these gorgeous leopard cubs!

Re: Masai Mara Safaris
Thanks for the nudge WS - once the rains start the Talek river is almost impossible to cross so here's hoping it stops soon and we get lots of news on Lorian and her cubs and all the other big cats.
