Wanda Woodpecker injured
We managed to snap some shots of Wanda on the birdcake yesterday and saw what appears to be a nasty injury on her head.
Woodpeckers do fight and we are wondering if she has been tangling with another woodpecker or another species of bird. Either way, it doesn't look good. We've not seen her today and are hoping she will be ok.

Breaking News - Woodpecker update
A female woodpecker arrived on the nutfeeder at 3.00pm. Only it wasn't the same girl as yesterday...
There is no injury to the head at all. This is a different female, but which one is Wanda? I've compared the photos from yesterday to my series of Wanda shots and the bird yesterday is not Wanda. The difference is in the black marking from the shoulder to the chest. The bird today was Wanda.
So Safari Maiden and I are thinking yesterday's visitor might have come a cropper in an attempt to move in on Wanda's territory.
But that isn't the whole story.
For there is a third female! When Wanda scooted up into the tree we spotted another uninjured female in a nearby treetop. We think she could be Wanda and Warren's daughter because she and Wanda were calling to each other and flew off in the same direction. Introducing Wendy...
Seems we are up to our ears in Woodpeckers now.

Re: Wanda Woodpecker injured
TT lookslike you've got a plethora of Woodpeckers, that would be great if Wndy is Wanda & Warrens daughter. Juat hope the other female is OK. Great photos of Wendy

Well that is a relief it isn't Wanda that is hurt but I do hope the other female is ok as that looked a nasty cut, or at least it looks it.
Glad Wanda is ok and it looks as though she has been defendingher territory and hopefully with her daughter around that is understandable.
Welcome to Wendy and Congrats to Wanda & Warren......it must be catching in your patch TT

Shame that there is still an injured Woodpecker out there but good news that it does not appear to be Wanda. You aint' have getting a lot of WP's to the garden and lovely to now have Wendy onboard
