A distressing read from DSWF
14th July 2010
In May, a well-known tigress was killed in Bandhavgarh National Park in India. The Jhurjura tigress, also known as Durga, was nursing three cubs - her third litter. She was killed by impact trauma before the park was open to tourists and it transpires that three Government vehicles had entered the park at night, illegally, one of them hit her. This beautiful tigress died of her wounds the following day.
Despite both The Minister of State (Independent Charge) and Dr. Rajesh Gopal - Member Secretary of the National Tiger Conservation Authority - advising the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh to call for an independent and transparent CBI probe into this tragedy, to date, no action has been taken against those involved.
That such a precious and beautiful tigress should come to such an ignominious end is a crime in itself.
Please write to the Chief Minister in Bhopal - cm@mp.nic.in - politely requesting an independent and transparent CBI investigation into this tragedy.
Thank you.
And for those who use FB here is more information on DSWF https://www.facebook.com/pages/David-Shepherd-Wildlife-Foundation/423360825223

That really is bad news Lia, and there should be an investigation, and action taken against the people who were in the Vehicles when they should'nt have been

You know what Doogs - I am thinking this is a big yes, I feel sure I will go and hopefully Pete will be able to and a couple of other friends too. What about you? It does seem rather far away from Aberdeen we are very lucky we are only 1 hour 45 mins from London on the train.

Thanks Lai
"We can talk all day long about how to save the tiger - but the truth is simple; the killing has to stop! I'm not prepared to see tigers lost to the world and I want everyone who shares my view to stand with me and be heard."

Great words and to think there may only be 3,500 left in the wild

Re: David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation
I so agree Doogs - honestly in no time at all there will be no tigers in the wild and then what? I watched Chui's link earlier and it's sad that the people hunting them can't see that they are doing anything wrong. Education and communication is desperately needed before it really is too late.

Re: David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation
Still to watch that one. 3,500 is such a small amount and very very soon all we will be left with is Tigers in captivity
I cannot get my head around people who hunt them not thinking they are doing anything wrong - there is something seriously wrong with them if they have that mentality

Re: David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation
Email this morning from DSWF - I am also posting this under the Tiger thread.
Lai
A host of stars from across the world of showbiz and entertainment are backing our global campaign to save the tiger – TigerTime. In just the last couple of days, Mel C, Sir Roger Moore, Ricky Gervais, Gemma Atkinson, Abi Titmuss and Susan Sarandon have declared their support. All these great stars have put their name to the TigerTime campaign at www.isupport.tigertime.info . This follows on from Stephen Fry using his legendary ‘tweeting’ powers to help launch the campaign.
Their lives are jammed full of engagements and their time is precious. I am touched beyond belief that they have found time to support TigerTime.
I know that getting so many stars behind us will inspire more people to join us. That's where you can continue to help. Please use these links to spread the word about TigerTime. Quite simply the more supporters we have for TigerTime, the more tigers we save in the wild. Don't forget there are only 3200 left..........................
Sincere thanks
David
