Thanks PPH, thats fascinating. Just a though, but if the Panda could return to a wider diet it could have more chance of survival, but I think that would take to long now.

I thought that WS, maybe the wild ones will adapt but as you say it may be a bit too late. Although could we start introducing a fraction of meat into the diet of the ones in captivity.

Its a hard thing to think about what would be interfering to much, but as one of the reasons they are endangered is because humans are destroying their habitat and food source would it be just re addressing the balance.

Thats an interesting article PPH. I never realised Pandas originally ate meat and that research has found the bones of dead animals in Pandas excrement. Obviously their digestive system can cope with meat so maybe there is a case for introducing it into their diet with their habitat reducing. As you say though is that interfering too much but then again, left to their own devices, would they go ahead and eat it anyway?

I know nothing about pandas but Nakeeta is going to China at the end of this month for 2 weeks as a volunteer to work with them - how exciting!!

She's going to Quan do?? not sure how you spell it. i shall worry like mad but i'm really proud of her and her passion for conservation. she did look at going to africa but the flights were hard as in she needed to stop over and change planes here and there ,being as this is her first trip without me she wanted to go somewhere quite simple to get to. So it's pandas this time and she'll save for another trip when she gets back.

It's her 20th birthday on the 20 Jan so i bought her a video camera for her trip, am so hoping she does a video diary as i want to see what she gets to do. She will take a normal camera as well.

She keeps getting annoyed with me at the moment as she reckons i'm already worrying and being clingy cheeky madam

my aunt is going to China for her 50th birthday in august and is going to visit the panda's as a treat. We've told her she isnt allowed to smuggle one home no matter how cute they are
