Governors Camp Collection - Rwanda
From FB : Governors Camp Collection 20/03/2012
A new baby gorilla is born in Rwanda ! A new baby was born in Titus family on Thursday morning, mother's name is Imvune. Dawn Zimmerman, our new resident vet just paid the family a visit and on her descent, one of the trackers radioed her to pls come back quickly as one of the females started bleeding. Dawn rushed back immediately and just before she reached them, she received another radio call to say that Imvune just gave birth.

Thanks Doogs for the update. It must be a truely wonderful experience, to sit with these amazing creatures, and I can quite understand people bursting into tears on returning from visiting them. It;s great to hear a good news story amonst all the bad news coming out of Africa these days, and that really brought a smile to my face tonight.
Thanks once again Doogs

Gorilla Update from Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge via
Governors Camp Collection on FB:
Governors Camp Collection on FB:
On yesterdays gorilla trek the Sabyinyo gorilla family were on the wall which forms the Park boundary so the trek was very short. This group have taken to eating Eucalyptus so are spending most of their time lately close by. The Agasha group were a little more difficult to find with a 2 1/2 hr trek to get to them. At first they were on a very steep slope in thick vegetation but eventually the gorillas moved into an open flat area where everyone enjoyed good views and great photos of them.

Gorilla News from Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge via
Governors Camp Collection on FB 24/09/2012:
At last it has stopped raining so trekking is much easier. Yesterday a Silverback took hold of one of our guests legs to steady himself as he walked passed the group of guests on a steep slope. Today, several guests were touched by gorillas on their trek!

Doogs - two great updates, can you imagine a gorilla getting hold of your leg a bit scary I imagine.
Lovely to read and to know that guests can get so close to them. Not sure about all that rain though.

You'll have to get into training Lai. I'm sure if you made it up the mountain one of those Silverbacks would give you a big Now there's an incentive for you

I think I would be completely freaked if a gorilla laid a hand on me and one be the first back down the mountain. Though it is one of TTs dreams to go to Rwanda to see the Gorillas.

From Governors Camp FB Page on 06/10/2012:-
Trekking the Susa Family on 3rd October 2012. A family of 37 Gorillas with 2 Silverbacks. I was priviledged to also see a 3 month old baby.
This experience is a must.
My guide Edward is brilliant. Mountain Gorillas eat around 200 species of plants, scoffing 15% of their body weight per day. Adult females (8yrs +) average 215 lbs and adult males (12yrs +) average 350 lbs.
