Re: West African Lion Virtually Extinct
That is such a sad and sobering read Doogs. I suppose they are the forgotten Lions in conservation terms and hopefully they will be included in the endangered/extinct list. How sad though that there has been opposition from the hunting fraternity, how typical of them as the article says, Lions are being poached for their bones as Tigers become more scarce, one iconic animal is being driven to extinction after trying to decimate another Iconic animal. It just drives you nuts, all we can do is make their plight knwn as much as we can and support all the conservation eforts for these magnificent creatures. I sometimes feel that some people will not be happy until all the animals of this planet are gone......what a sad world we would live in then.

Re: West African Lion Virtually Extinct
That is really devastating news Doogs, I did'nt realise that Lions were so few in those parts of Africa, we tend to read more about the Serengeti, Maasi Mara, and SA, so I did'nt realise how bad the situation was in those Countries. As was said in the article the numbers left in many places means that it will be geneticaly impossible for the numbers to bounce back, and they are in desperate need of help. I only hope when there are no more Lions to hunt, the Hunters turn on themselves now that is a species we could do with being extinct

Thats even more devastating when you realise that there are only 14 Countries with viable Lion numbers, and 35 where they are extinct, or virtualy extinct, and I have to say I'm astounded that there has been no authoritive Lion count in Kenya, when it means so much to the economy of that Country.

Thanks Doogs, a truly upsetting and sad article, but it needs stating so people understand just how critical things have become for lions.
