Galapagos slideshow
I've finally done a bit of a slideshow, it's a work in progress again but it shows some of the wonderful wildlife and beautiful scenery of Galapagos.
It is 5 mins 30 so relax and enjoy.

Re: Galapagos slideshow
Took your advice Lai turned the TV off poured myself a can of you know what sat back, and really enjoyed that. Brilliant such a varied collection of wildlife, and a lot of it specific only to the Galapagos. To many to pick out individual shots, but I loved the Seals, and that shot of the slabs of stones that looked like crazy paving. What was the Raptor you got a photo of ?. Like the music, Remember what you see, very appt.
Thanks for taking the time to do it, and share it with us.

Re: Galapagos slideshow
WS, I'm glad you enjoyed it and picked up on my choice of music, I felt it was apt although not from Ecuador!
I so agree about the crazy paving, it was amazing and so beautifully smooth, I just had to get a shot of something that is completely natural.
The raptor is the only one they have and it's a Galapagos Hawk, I only saw it once so it was a lucky shot.
Oh and I learned something too, as did quite a lot of us (including Jonathan) the difference between sealions and seals. We only saw sealions but all thought we were seeing seals.
SEA LIONS:• Earflaps
• Long hairless foreflippers
• Hindflippers rotate underneath to allow them to walk on land
• Swim underwater using foreflippers like wings of a bird
• Long smooth whiskers or vibrissae
SEALS:• Earholes
• Short, hairy foreflippers & long claws
• Move on land by wiggling on belly & keep hindflippers straight out
• Swim by steering with foreflippers and powering with hindflipers
• Whiskers are crimped or beaded
Anyway, I know how we all love learning news facts so I thought I would share that

This species is listed as Vulnerable because it has a small population. Trends are not clear, but are assumed to be stable. If threats, notably persecution, were shown to be causing a decline, this species would warrant uplisting to Endangered.

Thanks Lai for the name of the Galapagos Hawk, and the Seals, and Sealions. The day we stop learning, is the day we stop living, in my mind

Re: Galapagos slideshow
Lovely selection of pics Lai, lots of different birds. I must confess that I know very little about Pacific birds particularly seabirds did you have a relevant bird book. I can remember seeing sealions on visits to the circus and zoo when I was very small but I doubt if I could tell the difference between seals and sealions, thanks for the info. you never know it might come in useful sometime!!

Safariman, I bought a small guide on the boat which covered marine, bird and land creatures for Galapagos, not many so a small handy guide, thankfully!
You never know indeed Safariman, as you know I am Africa mad and have to have an annual fix but it was wonderful to visit and explore a new and different place

Littlewid. I enjoy sharing my photos and find a slideshow, albeit a bit longer than my normal ones, is a good way of giving a feel of the place and the wildlife.
I am delighted Tiga was also enjoying it

Re: Galapagos slideshow
Lai, it is definitely safe to say you have mastered the art of this slide show malarkey
What a fantastic selection of photos. Lots of birds (a number I didn't know what they were but I'm not very good with birds) which were stunning, a number of brilliant shots of the seals - there was a stunning one close up later on that I liked, a Pelican who looked like he was doing 'The Time Warp' , a tortoise that looked like he was smiling, those lovely coloured crabs that I like, some great captures of various birds in flight (not easy to do) and lots lots more - really enjoyed looking at that Lai, will definitely watch it again
Well done

Re: Galapagos slideshow
Doogs, your comments are much appreciated. I did get quite carried away with birds in flights as it's something I really struggle with!
I meant to list everything on the slideshow after the link but forgot - Galapagos has a limited amount of wildlife so it is relatively easy once you know what is what unlike Africa
I'll go through it later and add a list.

Thanks GR. Very appropriate avatar as I am an avid supporter of badgers and our government has decided to cull them

Re: Galapagos slideshow
What is the reason for the badger cull? Do they produce negative outcomes for the environment and other species? Or are there just considered too many of them?
If it's the latter than we need to get more Prin* people in society with their "not many"

Re: Galapagos slideshow
At this rate of speed of my internet connection, if I do a WS and whilst viewing this slideshow I could get rather , as it might all be more like 5 hours 30 minutes
But a first observation: That catctus thingy at 17 seconds. Check it out y'all. It's soooo cool. It's like a real animal or something. Because it's got the eyes, a kinda nose, sort of two sets of ears, and if you look to the extreme right of the image you will see four fingers!

"The day we stop learning, is the day we stop living, in my mind" - WS
A classic quote for the ages.
0:52 Like the yawning seal!
1:40 I forget what this was now Oh well, it was something interesting
2:54 If you look at this flamengo weirdly it can appear to be a human foot!
3:19 That pelican has some crazy dance moves!
Some of the crab pics are great too, plus the big reptiles
for taking the time to put all of this together Lai.

Re: Galapagos slideshow
4:30 - quite a cutey
4:38 - nice
5:05 - obviously far too big a night
The music was nice Lai, and thought the songs chant of "Remember what you see" being very apt.
By the way Mrs Kipia, for such an astute animal observer you have disappointed me greatly For it is rather easy to spot the difference between a seal and a sea lion.

Re: Galapagos slideshow
GR thanks for kind comments and humour and observations.
As Doogs mentioned the pelican looks like it is doing the Time Warp (from the Rocky Horror Show and way before your time).
It sounds like your broadband is even worse than mine, but well done for perservering! I thought the cactus was funny too.
We've a whole section on the badger cull GR so I won't answer that here.
