Re: sunday morning ramberlings
my daughter spotted the speckledwood and i had to creep up on him to get the shot
because as with most phones they dont have much zoom on them
as soon as i took the pic he was off
but luckly i managed to get the pic before he flew off
i seem to spend most of my time crawling about in the mud and all sorts trying to get pics
and get some very funny looks from the general public when your lying face down on the grass in my local town park trying to get pics of squirrels eat out of my daughters hand

Re: sunday morning ramberlings
Lovely photos there staffslass. I can't wait to see more!! I know what you mean about funny looks, I was doing exactly the same last week to get a picture of a swan and cygnets on a nest. Although in my case an even nuttier member of the public actually came and sat smack bang in front of me, then asked if he was in my way!! at least he didn't stay there long! So frustrating!

Re: sunday morning ramberlings
good evening all
now i know its not sunday morning and im not off ramberling but i thought i would share a few pics of some friends of ours that myself my daughter and my son have made
for the last two weeks we have been going to tamworth castle pleasure grounds to walk in the park and along the river bank
the wildlife in fantastic for a town centre park and one of the favs are the squirrels
they are so brave and not frighten to take food from your hands
we go armed with a large bag of nuts and sit quietlyunder the trees and the squirrels with sit in your hands and eat the nuts
its a simple pleasure but such a joy to be able to get close to our local wildlife

Re: sunday morning ramberlings
staffslass those are really wonderful and i'm glad you didn't wait till Sunday morning to post them.
I find squirrels so funny, we have lots where I work, infact the hospital nursery named the nursery after them many years ago as we have so many. The hospital is right next to a park and the squirrels are fairly tame, by that I mean not scared of people or the cars.
Look forward to more of your ramblings, this is a lovely thread, thanks staffslass.

Re: sunday morning ramberlings
good afternoon folks
beings as it was such a lovely morning i thought it would be a good idea to take a walk around borrow pit lakes just on the outskirts of tamworth town centre
so i slipped out very early this morning before the world had opened its eyes to enjoy the peace and the quiet and wildlife
its a man made lake mainly used by angerls and dog walkers
but it holds a wealth of wildlife, forna and flora and insects
i saw some great stuff including a pair of great creasted greebs with a young one
a group of very large carp in one of the smaller top pools sun bathing and playing about
a pair of swans with one young one
and a mallard with 6 fluffy chicks
borrow pit lakes
yellow flag iris
common mallow

Re: sunday morning ramberlings
oh and i forgot to say
the highlight of the morning was a family group of reed warblers
i could hear them making a racket and wondered what they were as i hadnt heard a bird call like that before
then i could see them flitting about and then they poped their heads above the reeds
i thought they might be warblers of some kind but wasnt sure what
so when i got home i looked through my books and narrowed it down between a sedge warbler and a reed warbler
but the more i read the more i was convinced its a reed warbler
i would have loved to have got a pic but they just didnt sit still lol

Re: sunday morning ramberlings
Borrow Pit looks a vast expanse of water staffslass, very tranquil, I love water.
Gorgeous flowers, funny but yellow and mauve/purple are my favourite flower colours.
Your rambling pics are always a delight to see.

Great pics Staffslass Love the ones of the Squirels Mrs S would love to do that get them to eat out of her hand, and she's mad on flowers, it's nice to see some growing in the wild. It really looks nice there at Borrow Pit, but be careful of the fishermen

Re: sunday morning ramberlings
good afternoon all
another installment for my sunday afternoon ramberlings
today i went to a place called alvecote woods in the little village of shuttington warwickshire
it is owned by a cpl who bought the land a few years ago and are now helping the acient wood back to health with nature conservation and all their own hard work
unfotuneatly it is not open to the public as a rule but they do have open days which is what they did today
the wood its self is beautifull they have greated lots of small woodlands grass medows wild flower medows and ponds
amongst the things we saw were
common brown hawker dragonfly: which flew round our heads and promptly landed on my sons hand but before i had chance to take a pic it was off
red tailed bumble bees : which had made a nest in an old rabbitt hole
fox glove
ornamental poppy
backet fungi
borage
