This beautiful little ele calf has had a dreadful start to life thanks to poachers. She has now been rescued and saved by the DSWT and hopefully she will have a long happy life and be able to be returned to the wild.

Sad That is such a sad sad story of little Zongoloni being deprived of her Mothers love, and care, and how brave was she trying to gaurd her Mother as she lay fataley wounded by despicable poachers who did'nt care that not only were they killing the Mother, they were killing the Zongoloni as well. Your right LW those photos just make your heart melt, and it's so fantastic that DWST are there to help these poor orphans that would surely die otherwise.

It is fantastic that they are there WS, the sad thing is that some of the calfs still die after they have been rescued due to the trauma but fingers crossed that little Zongoloni survives into adult hood, she is such a sweetie and has had the most dreadful start to life.

Thanks  Littlewid, another heartbreaking story of ele poaching and a traumatised calf. DSWT do such amazing work and the keepers look after these little orphans so well giving them a chance for the future.

What a heartbreaking story  Sad  So glad that Zongoloni was rescued by DWST and is now thriving at the Orphanage in Nairobi. It's great to that she appears to have overcome the trauma she suffered being next to her dying mum, some eles never get over that but she's done it fairly quickly which is just fantastic. Live long and happy little Zongoloni and look forward to that day when you run free in the wild one day  I love you
