Greater the worlds oldest Flamingo has sadly been put to sleep at the age of 83. Greater was named after his species the Greater Flamingo. He survived WW2 and a vicious attack. The zoo have Chilly left, a Chilean Flamingo and they are keeping on eye on him to make sure he is ok.

RIP Greater  I love you

Well done for posting that Littlewid, I saw it and forgot  Embarassed  I had no idea flamingos could live to such an age, what an incredible bird they are.

I am totally amazed  WOW  Let's hope Chilly will be okay.

I did'nt realise they could live that long either, well done to the Zoo staff for looking after, and taking such good care of him. Hopefully as you say Chile will be ok, but a bit lonely I should think without Greater to keep him company.

I didn't realise they lived that long either. They had no idea what sex Greater was and I suppose it doesn't matter at the end of the day. Greater had a fab long life at the zoo so now lets hope that Chilly is ok and has a very long life too.
