is it possible that there could be an otter in lower Withington, cheshire.Unfortunately a dead one now!however I had caught a glimpse of an unusual shape.,for a few days then outside my house a medium sized mammal very squashed.Looks like an otter its very smelly now but I would like to know what it is, how do I find out, any ideas?we have running water ,stream ,ponds etc but no river nearby

Hi skyjack
There are certainly Otters in Cheshire, they have now reappeared in every County in England. Three were recently filmed in the  River Gowy . One of our members lives in Cheshire , and is a member of the Cheshire Wildlife Trust, and I'm sure she will confirm this. As to wether what you are seeing is a dead Otter is hard to say, without a picture, which you cant post unless your a member. The other possibility is that it is a Mink, but they are smaller than an Otter.

Hello Skyjack

I also live in Cheshire, and yes there are otters in the county. I am not sure how extensive they are,but you could get in touch with Cheshire Wildlife Trust as I am sure they would be interested and would be able to help.
