I was always told never get between a hippo and the water if you see them out grazing (when riding) and to be honest I always gave them a seriously wide berth - actually I did with most wildlife!

Wow I would'nt have liked to be in that vehicle when the Hippo hit it. I did know that Hippos are the most dangerous animals in Africa, and kill the most people. I think the Buffalo is next. I have read that you should never get between a Hippo, and water, but did'nt think of that when I read the first report.

From the Mara Triangle via FB on Sunday 04/11/2012 :-

"We had terrible weekend where two people were killed by wild animals. One man was killed by elephant near Kichwa Tembo. He was last seen leaving Skyship around 6pm on Friday heading to Kichwa. No one knew he went missing until his body was found at 9am Saturday morning. Another man was killed by a hippo later in the afternoon on the same day. His body was found between Karen Blixen and Serian in MNC. Our deepest condolence to the victims and their families".

What a shocking couple of reports Crying or Very sad

Doogs that is dreadful, do they know if they were locals or visitors to the country? I know it doesn't change the outcome but was just wondering.

Oh my Goodness, it would be shocking whatever but in some way a little more shocking as they were locals and you would imagine that they would know more on how to avoid this type of dreadful incident, I know accidents can happen at any time and to the most expert people......take Steve Irwin, but for it to be two locals is surprising, not that I know how it all happened, it could be a freakish accident, whatever, it is dreadful news and so awful for the families involved.

Thats terrible news Doogs ,and I feel so sorry for the families of the two men. Hippos as we know are responsible for killing more people than any other wild animal, and Elephants in must, or with young can also charge without warning. If they were local it sound very much like wrong place wrong time, which is so sad.

From MT's FB Page - 30 May 2013:

"Three bush meat poachers were arrested yesterday. 13 arrows, 1 bow, 1 spear, fishing rods and a knife. They were on their way to hunt, rangers caught them before they killed any animals".
