Bull gets its own back
Many injured as bull jumps into crowd at Spain arena
19 August 2010 Last updated at 03:41 Help A bull jumped into the stands at a bullring in northern Spain injuring up to 40 people, according to officials.
It happened in Tafalla, when the animal leapt over the fence and climbed up the stairs of the stands, knocking people over.
A 10-year-old boy suffered stomach wounds while another spectator was gored in the back. The other injuries were minor.
Officials later tied a rope around the bull to bring it under control. The animal was removed using a crane and later killed.
Spectators were watching a contest of "recortadores", where participants attempt to dodge the bull as it runs frantically around the arena.
The incident comes as the country is split over whether bull fighting should be completely outlawed. Last month Catalonia became the first major Spanish region to ban the deadly sport.

The Bull may have died in the end, but it would have done anyway. At least it got some revenge in first

Yes, true WS - i've never been keen on bullfighting, but I am sorry if people were injured. Seems a good reason to ban it, too barbaric for me.

Re: Bull gets its own back
I read this today and didn't realise that the Bull would have died anyway. I thought it was their silly dodge the bull in the ring, I didn't think it said Bull Fighting, therefore I thought the Bull would have normally survived and was killed because of the attack on the people, which from the Bulls point of view I quite understand, they wind it up, frighten it and expect the poor Bull to take it. In my book, if you don't want to get hurt, then dont go and watch and support such a sick thing. My empathies are with the Bull, he didnt deserve to die because of what happened and Bull fighting and Bull taunting should be stopped completely.

I think it is being stopped in certain towns in Spain - perhaps they will all follow suit. We can but hope.

I believe it is Lai, it should be banned completely though, it's cruel and un-neccessary.

I'm with you LW If you get hurt its your own fault for going, and supporting it. The children that were hurt I feel sorry for their Parents are responible for taking them. The adults who got hurt received rough justice. I'm on the Bulls side, and the sooner it is banned all together the better

At least some Good News
Success: Catalonia, Spain Bans Bullfighting!
Last month, Parliament passed a ban on bullfighting, making Catalonia the first major region of Spain to outlaw the old Spanish tradition. The ban will take effect January 01, 2012. More than 35,000 of you added your name to the petition on Care2, sponsored by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA). Say Congratulations!

I hate bull fighting. Barbaric entertainment!
We no longer live in the dark ages! Remember when one town threw a donkey off the roof of te highest building, or something like that. It s all pointless.

OMG I remember that now you say it SM that was so sickening, it haunted me for days. Why oh why do people have to be so cruel to innocent animals, my heart always bursts with such sadness for them all but my blood runs cold for the people that do it. As you say we no longer live in the dark ages and even then there was no excuse for it all.

Re: Bull gets its own back
Never understood how bull fighting could be classed as a 'sport', it's cruel, barbaric and totally un-necessary.
Glad to hear that Catalonia has done the right thing (many years too late) in stopping it, lets just hope more of Spain follows suit and maybe one day the sport will no longer be with us.

I so hope so Lai, things really do need to change big time and then it needs to be maintained. Animals have suffered enough at the hands of man for far too long.

Re: Bull gets its own back
I read this the other day and its sad for the Bulls. This is still barbaric for them and must be so frightening as well. When will people stop treating animals as if they have no feelings or rights and start treating them with the respect they deserve.
It's two pages guy's but not a huge read but worth it although it makes you mad.
