Leucistic Laysan albatross
Wayne Sentman has sent us these images of a leucistic Laysan albatross chick. About 70 percent of the world's population of Laysan Albatrosses nests on Midway. The IUCN-World Conservation Union lists the species as globally vulnerable to extinction.
Leucism
Leucism is a very unusual condition whereby the pigmentation cells in an animal or bird fail to develop properly. This can result in unusual white patches appearing on the animal, or, more rarely, completely white creatures

Our thanks to Wayne Sentman for these images.

How gorgeous is he WS, a big fluff ball and what huge feet he has. Sitting out there on his own I hope he isnt isolated from the rest because he is white.

How interesting, I wonder if he will be picked out more easily by predators? or get picked on by the others because he is different? He does look very sweet and fluffy at the moment though.

Re: Leucistic Laysan albatross
I think Albatross Chicks are left on there own for quite long periods. I also think I remember one being on Springwatch where it had been left foe an amazingly long time, but that seemed to be the norm, although it was'nt this species of Albatross

Great footage WS.
He does seem alone, but there is a cameraman very close so they may be standing off in that respect as well.
