Re: Autumn Watch Favourite Moments
My favourite moment from Thursdays programme (7th) was when kate flicked the Parakeet pooh off the plate Chris had gone to great lengths to microwave it to see the ants the parakeet had eaten and he was desperate for Kate to squidge it to see them and she just pinged it off the plate....I so laughed at the look on his face a magic moment

I have to agree with you there Lai. I thought Charlie was really good after a bit of a hesitant start. He really got into it, and the Otter sequence was Brill. Loved the part where the Dog Otter swam upto the Camera, and touched it.

I loved the Otter swimming underwater too and there is a clip of it in the otter thread.
I also loved all the starlings taking over in Unsprung and sitting on everyones heads......Brilliant

Loved the Badgers to LW, and the sounds of the Sika Deer. I never knew that was the sound they made. The Scottish Wildcat was brill, but it did show the problems of Hybridisation that we have talked about before on the forum. I think it was in the small cat section

I agree, fascinating to learn about the wild cats and the Sika deer - interesting to learn just how much hybridisation goes on.

Re: Autumn Watch Favourite Moments
As stated on the Unsprung thread just caught up with both episodes of AW this week.
In last weeks programme the otters were just amazing, they have such adorable faces always a treat to see them on the TV. The guy that was reporting on them was rather dishy too !!!!
Good mix of stuff this week, wee girl all decked out in her camouflage to see the badgers was rather cute and you could see she was obviously excited about it all The wildcats were just gorgeous, would be such a buzz to see them in the wild. Yes there was dubiaty about whether they were true Wildcats but they looked amazing. Also thought the noises the Sika deer made were pretty

Re: Autumn Watch Favourite Moments
Fav moments of todays Autumn Watch Mrs Bitey poor chris
Having Gordon Bucchanan back plus seeing those baby Grey Seals look forward to seeing more of those and how amazing was the Conga Eel with kate, that was so magical and how lucky was she. So sad that people want to hunt them as well, especially as alot of them have probably not even laid eggs when they have been hunted.
Lots of good things this week.

Mrs Bitey was a classic moment. I do have sympathy for Chris as my friend has a ferret who bit me pretty much in the same place that Mrs Bitey bit Chris and it does hurt cos they do tend to bite and hang on

Ooops sorry WS, hope I didn't spoil it for you
My neighbours have a polecat and ferretts PPH, never been bitten by them yet, they are real softies but I still wouldn't like to be bitten by one .....Mrs Bitey was a bit of a star and she definiately wanted to go back for more I felt

Re: Autumn Watch Favourite Moments
It's OK LW I did'nt read your post so when I watched it it was all new. I loved the part with the Conga EEl thought that was Brill with Kate. I did'nt realise they only give birth once, and to do that they swim all the way to the Saragossa Sea then die. Thats such a shame after all the effort they give to prolong their species. As she said it's a big problem with Anglers targeting them, I think if they new about them properly they might have a different view on catching them.

Glad I didn't ruin it for you WS. I'm hoping that some anglers saw the programme and will think twice about catching eels in british waters and give them a chance to breed.

Must confess to not thinking Conga Eels are particularly bonny but that was an amazing sequence of film that they showed with Kate and one

Re: Autumn Watch Favourite Moments
Autumn Watch was brilliant as usual yesterday. My favourite moment was seeing the seal swimming on his back having a good old scratch and then seemingly waving at the end, just briliant.

Re: Autumn Watch Favourite Moments
Yes I loved that bit to LW, but I thought it seemed as though he was clapping himself. I could also do with a load of worms seeing as they are the ones that shift most of our leaves. I dont seem to have any round here

I meant clapping WS, why did I say waving
Another favourite bit was the explanation of the leaves changing colour. I love that sign of Autumn. There are some trees here that I would love to be able to get a picture of but they are on a very busy bypass, but there are a mass of trees lineing the road and they are all different shades of red, brown, green and gold, it really is rather specatular. If I can get a pic without getting run over I will try and get one for you all to see.

Watching those seal pups doesn't half make you though - that little tooter stuck on the rocks with the rough sea battering over it, then it's mum took it into the water was it strong enough to swim :?: of course it was, thankfully mum knew best and all ended well, phew

Re: Autumn Watch Favourite Moments
I agree with you both there, my heart was in my mouth watching that little pup, I was certain something dreadful was going to happen, but as you both say, luckily mum knew what she was doing, it was such a relief when we knew it was ok. Nature really has you on the edge of your seat sometimes doesn't it.

Re: Autumn Watch Favourite Moments
I loved the little Field mice and Corn mice on Unsprung but my fav ourite moment on AW this week was the Migrating Starlings and seeing them all roosting under the pier. There was quite a few little battles going on for space and the best place, lots of little pecks here and there but so lovely to see them all but seeing them sweeping in the sky was just amazing, I would so love to see that sight
