Re: Winter Watch 2010
Sadly no photo but we just had an interesting visitor, and a first for me, right outside the french window having a good look in, a little weasel. I saw him earlier in the garden and assumed it was a squirrel as he ran off and disappeared round the corner, but then just now in full view there he was. Honestly I need to have my camera round my neck

Re: Winter Watch 2010
I wasnt sure if it was a pied wagtail or a long tailed tit as we have both around where I live. Reading the description of the walk then it is a pied wagtail, it was so close to me when I first saw it but had run away by the time I got my phone out to take a picture

Re: Winter Watch 2010
I hope that little Pied wagtail made it safely across the road PPH, a dodgy place for a little bird to be.
How amazing to have a weasel in your garden Lai, it would have been great to have a pic. All these little animals just appear out of the blue don't they, I reckon they know we are after seeing them.....hopefully he will return and you will be able to get a shot of him.

he did make it safely over the road, he flew off not long after I got the picture thankfully its a side road so not much traffic. There tends to be 4 or 5 all around that area normally

Re: Winter Watch 2010
That's a relief PPH. I'm always worrying about birds in the road, it's not the place for them to be, so i'm pleased he crossed the road safely. sadly on my way to work I see a lot of Pheasants in the road that have been run over, they are not the type of birds that should be crossing roads, they are too slow and have no road sense. Glad the Pied wagtails are more sensible.

Re: Winter Watch 2010
they are very sensible birds as they potter about the car park to my block of flats all day so they are used to cars.
Below are two pics of the hedgerow/trees that I can see from my flat. they pictures are taken from my hedge which is outside my flat and I can regularly see the birds sitting in the trees and in the spring/summer the noise of all the birds is lovely

Re: Winter Watch 2010
I can imagine the birds loving those hedgerows PPH, they look ideal for lots of wonderful birds to nest in. Have you seen any birds nesting in there or is it a place for them to hang out?
Gorgeous pics Anne-Marie, the trees look stunning and Lai is right it looks so magical. You are so lucky to have a place like that to spend your lunch hour at, I wouldn't want to go back to work. It looks very festive at the moment but also very dreamy.
Millie is just adorable, I bet everyone who sees her round there just falls in love with her. It was good to see her again

Re: Winter Watch 2010
I havent seen any nests in there but come the spring I will be having a bit of a nose around the hedge to see if any little birds have nested in there. It tends to be more of a hang out place for all sorts of birds and I think its a kind of area where they like to make noise either to get a mate or defend territory. In the spring and summer there are loads of birds making such a lovely noise

Stunning photos AM. They look like they should be on the front of Christmas Cards.
(Maybe an idea for WAAs Christmas 2011?)

Loving the frosted hedgerows PPH. It would be great if there were nests amongst them. When you have a nosey let us know what to find.

Re: Winter Watch 2010
I've been realy gutted this week. Had 3 sightings of Buzzards, one landed on top of a telegraph pole on my way to pick Mrs S up, and the road was to narrow to safely stop to get a photo, then another day after we left home one came out of the woods in front of the car straight at us, just skimming the top of the car. Two days later we were picking a friend up from the Caravan Site where he stays, and there was a really massive one just riding the wind stationery overhead, but by the time we had stopped, and I'd got out it had moved . Gonna keep trying though

Re: Winter Watch 2010
the photo was taken at 10 am when we had about 2inches of snow, its not stopped snowing all day and at times its been blizzard conditions. The last report from my mate who has been measuring it in her garden is that we've had about 7 inches

Re: Winter Watch 2010
OMG PPH, thats alot of snow. We just really had a dusting compared to what we had last time but sounds as if you are well snowed up. They did report that some people would have blizzard conditions and it sounds as if they were not wrong. I hope it stops for you soon and secretly I hope it doesn't come this way
