Fairly quiet weekend which was good. Friday we went to the local Golf Club as a friends son is leaving Aberdeen to do a golf scholarship in Texas, lucky him. He is the nephew of golfer Paul Lawrie and a very good player, hope he does well. Was very good and took the car affraid

Sat was a few beers with dad then the footie which we won 2-1 Very Happy

Sunday I pottered about the house while Ian had his photography guy in before we headed over to mum & dad's for Sunday dinner, grand :)

Hope AM had a lovely day on Sat and everything went according to plan. Hopefully she'll get on here before she goes to let us know

Can never keep up with this thread so just jumping in.

AM has some pics of FB but hasnt managed to give an update. Im sure she has a few other things on her mind, not least packing for Kenya (Im so jealous!). They both look fabulous and soooo happy.

Yes Doogs any more pics of the very handsome Syd, such a cutie!

Well I have taken the week off to do my Spring Clean (gutting the house) as we need to get work done in a few areas. Well best get back to the kitchen cupboards.

Now I forgot to mention that on my post last night, wee Syd had his first sleep over on Sat night at ours. He's a lively wee lad and he actually had Ian & I crying with laughter as he took a 'madder' which involved rotations of the sofa, his bed and sliding/rolling up in the rug on the floor, it was hysterical ROFL

I did try to take a video of him but couldn't for Laughing

!!! Should have taken some photos but I didn't Embarassed

Promise I'll get some soon Wink

Ooooh spring clean SM, not good at the time

but always good once you've finished :) Don't envy you there but it will all be worth it in the end Wink

Saw some of AM's photos on FB, she really did look lovely. She's not away until next week so hopefully she'll post a few on here inbetween packing.

Hi everyone!!! Thank you so much for your lovely messages!!! WS, love the picture of the cake, now why didn't i think of that one?? Very Happy

We had the most superb day. Weather was gorgeous in the morning, then the clouds rolled in, and then the drizzle started just in time for the pictures, I must confess though, it was a welcome relief! I was soooo hot!!! Then the rain stopped and people were able to mill around outside as well. I'll start a new thread with some piccies on. My brothers stepson had my camera so I have some photos!!

I'm writing my packing list tonight Very Happy

14. Gloves Laughing

Don't laugh at the last two - it really can be that cold first thing in the morning and they are very handy !!!

Lai, when you visited the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, did you have to pay $40 to the Kenya Wildlife Service to cover entrance fees? As far as I was aware you didn't have to, there is a separate entrance to the DSWT but on our 'important holiday information' it says

"DAPHNE SHELDRAKE ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE

Please note that there is a fee of 300 Kenyan Shillings is payable locally for this excursion. This is for a compulsory donation to the Orphanage and vehicle and drivers fees. Please also be aware that the excursion is on a request basis on arrival and subject to availability.

In addition clients will be required to pay US$40 per person to the Kenya Wildlife Service to cover entrance fees."

We didn't pay anything when we went in 2009 - if you're a foster do you still have to pay ? Is this payment not applicable to members of the public who come during the day ? Elephant behind

As far as I knew, for the public visiting hour there was a small fee to pay, about 500ksh, which is not a lot at all. And for foster parent visit there is no charge.

It just sounds like a park entrance fee, but I'm amazed we would have to pay that as well!! scratch

I think its wrong.

From what I remember if you go to the public opening at 11.00am - midday you pay a small amount, off the top of my head I can't remember but maybe $US10 or $US20.

Private visit at 3.00pm there is a charge.

For a foster parent to visit in the afternoon at 5.15pm there is no charge. Or wasn't when we visited.

That all seems very confusing Anne-Marie. I only remember paying an entrance fee to the orphanage once we got there.

Might be worth getting in touch with DSWT UK for advice?

I'll speak to Harriet at DSWT. By the sounds of it, its a charge to enter Nairobi National Park, but everything I've read says its a different entrance and you don't have to pay that. scratch

Thanks for clarifying that Anne-Marie. I bet you can't wait? Are you going 3 times in one day or just for the private visit? The midday visit is fun as they are playing around in the mud and being fed. 5.15pm they are being fed and going to bed. We went twice before, this time definitely booked for mid afternoon private visit and not sure what else yet.
