Re: Badger Cull Protest
I guess at this stage WS we just have to wait and see and in the meantime keep circulating the petition and getting people to write/e-mail their MP and keep the campaign going.

From Team Badgers FB Page
It will cost £51 per hectare for vaccinations, an oral vaccine is available by 2015. It is 73% effective (in humans BCG is only 50% effective ), and it was found that 75% of badgers were TB free even in endemic areas.

Thanks WS. The badgers in Cheshire are TB free and are being vaccinated. I just hope this cull can be stopped.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Thanks for that Lai. Simon put the arguement very clearly, and lets hope the Minister for Agriculture takes his ear defenders off, and listens, but I doubt it. As Simon says the key is a cattle vacination, and I cant understand why the EU wont allow it . It's a shame about the wind on the sound in the interview

TEAM BADGER
We are shocked that defra would allow badgers to be hunted by dogs. This is horrific. This statement makes it clear that defra approve.
How can this ever be humane .
This cull is unscientific, unethical, not humane and wont work - share and sign our petition NOW.

11. The use of a trained dog to follow a scent trail, with the aim of locating (without physically coming into contact with) an injured badger, does not require a licence and can be carried out under an exemption provided in the Hunting Act 2004. Any dog used in this way should be kept under close control on a leash when following a trail and, if shooting from or near a vehicle, should be kept in the vehicle unless actually being used to locate an injured badger. Normally only a single dog should be used for this purpose (the exemption under the Hunting Act does not permit the use of more than two dogs). Use of a dog-muzzle should be considered.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Surely not? I am appalled and deeply shocked. That is very much open to being abused by those people who want to use their dog/dogs for badger baiting.

Opportunity to comment on the badger control licence application in the Dorset reserve pilot area
Badger control licence applicants must consult with the public to allow them the opportunity to comment on how they might be affected if proposed licensed activity goes ahead in the reserve pilot area of Dorset

Re: Badger Cull Protest
There have been quite a few posts on here since I last posted, so I need to get up to speed on it and listen to Simons speech and then get on to the last link WS, I dont want to just jump in without being up to date on it all. Must admit though, don't like the sound of Dogs being used, but will hold off till I am up to speed. One for tomorrow.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
National
March Against
The Badger Cull
Saturday 1st June. Central London
We will be assembling at Millbank, near Tate Britain, SW1P 4RG at 12pm. See map (further down this page) for details.
The nearest tube station is Pimlico. Once there, follow signs to the Tate Gallery.
Despite massive scientific, political and popular opposition, the UK Government’s controversial pilot badger cull is set to begin on 1st June of this year.
On the same day, people from all walks of life will be marching to demonstrate public opposition to a deeply flawed policy. We want this to be a family friendly positive event so please come and participate in that spirit.
http://www.londonagainstthecull.org.uk/
I so wish we could make it, but happily some of the Wirral & Cheshire Badger group will be there and to them.

More signatures still needed on the petition, I know we've all signed but perhaps a reminder to friends/colleagues via FB and Twitter.

Bill Oddie
He was not only talking about the Badgers. He also brought up the Buzzard Cull, and really confirmed that as I have been saying these decisions are politicaly motivated, not based on scientfic evidence, or wildlife concerns
More evidence that the BBC are restricting debate on the Cull of both Badgers, and Buzzards on Springwatch
Brian May says he was banned from Springwatch

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Shameful, and an interesting insight into how PC we have become in the UK, completely unable to voice opinions, we are supposed to be a democracy.
It makes me not want to watch Springwatch now, there they are showing all our wonderful UK wildlife and discussing everything but totally ignoring major issues of concern to a large percentage of the UK population. They can't just turn a blind eye to the badger or buzzard cull, it's a complete farce.
Thanks for that link WS.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
I have just caught up with Bill Oddies interview, what a man he is he said what we would all like to say and he wasn't affraid to say it, there was nothing PC about him and I love that. The girl doing the interview was just being a typical news person, reading what was on the paper in front of her, Bill was not affraid to tackle her and tell her she was wrong. Yes it may b a coincidence but isn't it strange that when someone has something important and true to say, helicopters fly above them, its so true and I reckon Bill was right to mention that. I think he did a sterling job.
Brian May being banned from Springwatch just goes to show how they not only dont want to listen but people are being silenced because the government know they are wrong and are affraid of an even bigger up roar. I too am disgusted with the BBC, I am not surprised about Michaela not saying something as she is quite a soft presenter and by that I mean she is not as hard core as Chris packham so I reckon thats why they had her mention it in almost passing the other night, viewers wouldnt expect her to be forceful about it, whereas if they had Chris making a passing comment more people would be surprised he passed it off. they are obviously affraid of loosing their jobs if they are not towing the line, real shame on them because if they call themselves wildlife lovers and presenters of true facts they are failing the wildlife, they are supposed to be the wildlifes advocate but they are obviously more concerned about their next contract. They are giving us the "fluffy" side of nature and not the real issues that are going on behind the scenes, I am not really impressed.
Is not watching Springwatch the answer, no not really as we miss out on seeing the animals we love as well and affecting the BBC ratings wont make a difference but hitting the BBC notice boards with how disgusted and let down we feel by Springwatch not covering these culls is one sure fired way of letting them know that they are only paying lip service to wildlife issues and are too affraid of covering the big issues and people like chris Packham cant call themselves true conservationists if they are to scared to speak out because real conservationists would be up in arms whatever the cost.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Littlewid, I can only assume that the 3 presenters are on a strict contract with the BBC and if they mention it they would be axed. Who knows, but I do care and am incensed.
Chris Packham I am sure tweeted before about the culls, being against them, so I am assuming he has been silenced.

Sorry Lai, I meant that I too had thought about not watching Springwatch too but that I thought hitting the boards would have a better effect . I was talking in general terms not implying you didn't care, sometimes I don't word things very well when I am steaming about something so I am sorry if it came out wrong
