Phew, as long as I hadn't upset you, I would never intentionally do that to anyone.
This cull just so infuriating

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Your right Lai, Packham did tweet against the Cull. Loads of people are all complaining on the boards, I'm surprised the National Newspapers have'nt picked up on it yet. Perhaps thats another avenue to to think about, to make the beeb take notice

Re: Badger Cull Protest
The Beeb mentioned it on Countryfile last night, missed most of it though, something about the cull in Ireland and had it worked. It will be on Iplayer no doubt.
I am delighted that those with a tongue and the nerve are saying what they think.
Bill Oddie, Simon King, Chris Packham et al and of course Brian May.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
It did show that after a cull in Ireland that TB in cattle reduced, but it could'nt all be put down to the cull. Ireland has invested a lot of money in Bio Security for it's farms, and other preventative measures. They are also working on vaccinating the Badgers, and are testing a bait ball trial, where the bait is buried in the ground at a depth that Badgers like to dig to, but cant be reached by other animals like Dogs, the vaccine works if it is injested. There is alsp the size of the Country, and many other factors to be taken into account, so it cant all be put down to a cull. Now I've just checked on BBC i Player, and the current episode being shown is not the one that was on last night. Strange that it should be a programe about Badger culling, after all the complaints. Coincidence ?

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Thanks for that WS and mmmmm coincidence, honestly what is going on? What happened to 'freedom of speech' ?

Re: Badger Cull Protest
URGENT ACTION EMAIL YOUR MP TODAY. YOU MAY HAVE DONE BEFORE, BUT DO IT AGAIN LET THEM KNOW THEIR VOTE WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT AT THE NEXT ELECTION
Dear Badger Friends
It’s begun. The barbaric pilot cull of thousands of badgers started on Saturday. [1] But there’s a spark of hope.
Mary Creagh MP has called a vote in parliament on Wednesday. Although not legally binding, it could be our last chance. If we cause a big enough backlash by MPs across all political parties, it might be enough to halt the cull and make sure our badgers are safe.
We’ve only got less than 24 hours to persuade our MPs to vote to stop the cull. MPs from the Conservatives, Lib Dems and Labour have all vowed to vote to stop the cull.
[3] Can you email your MP now to make sure they turn up and vote to stop the cull too?
https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/badgers-vote
Every day, up to 70 badgers could die because the government says it’s necessary to stop the increase of TB in cattle. But scientists say that the policy will have “unimpressive results” in reducing TB, and the evidence in support of a cull is shaky. [4]
The last thing the government wants now is for us to ramp up the attention around this vote. If we’re going to stop the cull, thousands of us have to email our MP and persuade them to vote against the cull on Wednesday.
Getting enough of a backlash is a long-shot. But we know that people power works. In the last week alone we managed to force the government to pledge ”never” to introduce a limit on the number of times we’re allowed to visit our GP. [5]
Badgers have been part of the British countryside for generations, and we want to protect them for generations to come. If we’re going to stop the cull, numbers count. The more of us that email our MP, the more chance we have of persuading the government that they should change their minds.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
WS been and gone and done it yesterday, via 38 Degrees and another group too, our MP will be sick to death of me soon but I would doubt he will attend the debate.
Let's be positive on this and hope the Government finally sees sense.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
If you want to know how your MP voted in the badger debate yesterday, (and I think it was disgusting they didn't make this a free vote but a 3 line whip which means tow the party line or else).
http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201314/cmhansrd/cm130605/debtext/130605-0003.htm
you can also read the whole debate which is somewhat long
http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201314/cmhansrd/cm130605/debtext/130605-0001.htm
I have no idea what is going to happen now but let's not give up the fight.
Lai
Three-line whips
Defying a three-line whip is very serious, and has occasionally resulted in the whip being withdrawn from an MP or Lord. This means that the Member is effectively expelled from their party (but keeps their seat) and must sit as an independent until the whip is restored.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Thanks for the Links Lai. I will check them out later.
3 line whips, it just goes to show the bullying tactics the Government has used to get this through. I felt really sorry for MP Tracey Crouch, who voted against the cull last time, and was left in no doubt about what she had done with some Tory colleagues had barely speaking to her since, and for her she voted against it this time. I doubt that the vast majority of those MP's that voted for the cull, understand the scientific evidence that has been presented or in many cases have even read it. They are to interested in their own political careers, to bother about animal welfare. To me it speaks volumes that they put a 3 line whip on. If the evidence to support the cull was that overwhelming, they would'nt have needed to do it.
No we wont stop suppoting the Badgers

Thanks for the links Lai, I will read them later as they are long.
I have signed the new petition you put up though, as you say there is no harm in signing as many petitions as possible, we have to keep doing something.
WS you really did say that well. It's disgusting they are bullied into towing the line but then again if they do it just goes to show how shallow they are. My rule is always, if you believe in it then stand up for it and have your own mind and freedom of speech never be intimidated by others because thats what they are counting on.
Love our and speak out for them.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Thanks WS. I am so incensed by this whole thing and more and more so the more I think about it. We vote them in and they totally disregard us. 3 line whips are an unacceptable way to get your party to tow the party line on an issue that should clearly have been a free vote.
The heat is on and we shall never give in. They should remember we have the means to vote them in and the means to vote them out ....
Rant over
