Re: Badger Cull Protest
That is so right WS & Lai and I for one will surely not be voting for anyone who was in favour of the cull.
I too love your new avatar Lai, it's perfect and beautiful

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Thanks Littlewid, it's a little badger we saw last year when we were in Dorset with SK and went on an evening badger watching - let's hope they are safe as they were just wonderful to watch.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Reminder note to self to catch up on this thread.
So the possible badger cull is a major political issue in England?

It has become one GR. But I would say this is unusual.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Dear Supporter,
The pilot badger culls could begin at any time, yet despite the purpose of the pilots being to measure the ‘humaneness’ of free-shooting badgers, the Government has yet to make public all the details of how it will be measuring this. How will they decide if shooting is a humane method?
The RSPCA are deeply concerned that free-shooting badgers, due to their particular muscular anatomy, could result in badgers retreating wounded and dying a slow, painful death
More worryingly still, the Government seem to have made up their minds about the ‘humaneness’ of the cull before the pilots have even begun. Environment Secretary, Owen Paterson, the minister in charge is already speculating that 100,000 badgers could be killed over the next 25 years should the culls be rolled out nationally
Everyone should be able to agree that in the spirit of openness and transparency, the methods of assessing the humaneness of the cull should be made public

Re: Badger Cull Protest
This is strange because the other day when I looked at the link it said I had already voted and the againsts was 58%. Well I have just looked to see if the number had risen since yesterday and it said 60% and it allowed me to vote, so I did and it still said 60%

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Just had another look at it. It now says the Poll is closed, it ended up 60% against the Cull, and 40% for.
On the Welsh News last night there was a piece about Badger Vaccination here in Wales, apparently it's costing £600 per Badger the biggest factor is labour costs. The Welsh Assembly Minister for Agriculture is calling for a meeting between Animal Charities, and interested parties to help to raise money, and volunteers to save costs, and I understand this is being arranged.

It is good news Lai that more are against the cull than for it
WS it sounds as if our Politicians could learn a lot from Wales. Good on them for not giving up on the vaccination program just because it is expensive. Lets hope lots of volunteers come forward. I am sure if this was being done in England lots of volunteers would come forward to and the animal charities here. It would have been nice to have had the chance instead of our lot going for the cull

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Thanks for that WS and good news for sure that more people are against the cull.
The cost to be trained to vaccinate is £700 per person, we found that out from Cheshire Wildlife Trust, so there aren't enough people trained. On top of that the £600 per badger is a lot of money. Good for Wales, let's hope England learns from this.
