Brilliant, I stayed up listening to the match on Radio5 Live till 2-30am. Talk about nailbiting, and very frustrating listening on the radio, because on the really important points taht you cant bare watching, you cant put your hand over your eyes, and there's no point in covering your ears cos you wont know what happened .Did'nt see that Lady on the Horse, sort of puts things into perspective, when we complain about aches, and pains.

Re: Sports Thread
Well my eyes are slowly but surely requiring to be held up by matchsticks after being up until 2am watching the Ryder Cup. After a disappointing two days in the foursomes the boys really got their act together yesterday in the singles to pull off a fantastic win - it was well worth staying up for and being today for !!!

Re: Sports Thread
Does anyone here like cycling (or at least watch the TDF with Wiggos victory)?
Yes, I know there are a lot of drug scandals
Nice to see some interest here with the track and field at the Olympics. I used to be a major fan, especially of the distance stuff and those amazing Africans.

I did watch the TDF, and thought it was great although I admit it was proberbly cos Wiggo was winning, and I really enjoyed the Veladrome at the Olympics. There was some brilliant riding, and not just by UK riders

Re: Sports Thread
And Wiggo will likely have no chance of repeating his TDF victory next year as he is going to focus on winning another three week race, the Tour Of Italy, in May.
So less interest for the Brits next year

Re: Sports Thread
Your right there GR the course is really against him next year, to many hills. So I dont blame him for going for the TOI. I think are Guys will be busy planning for Brazil, a bit like the leopard keeping out of site then blitzing it

Re: Sports Thread
WS, you have heard of the Tour Of Italy, The Giro!
It is often a joke amongst cycling enthusiasts that most people have only heard of the TDF
There is a long ITT in the Giro which is what I think Wiggins is looking for. Also that his teammate Froome wants to try to win the TDF himself next year.
Froome was born in Kenya (or at least raised there), so I will keep an eye on him for any leopardish behaviour

I reckon your right about our boys hiding and then blitzing it like Leopards WS, we have some good young riders and hopefully we will storm Brazil. I must admit the only cycling I do watch is in the Olympics and I am glued to it, I love all the events and this year I did enjoy the BMX as well, I had not watched any before but its exciting stuff.

Re: Sports Thread
Whilst I was tucked up in my bed on Sunday I watched and hour and half long documentary on Sky called "Bradley Wiggins: A Year In Yellow". A really good, interesting watch for anyone that's got Sky and for those who haven't I'm sure you could watch it online somewhere.
2012 has been the most successful year ever for Bradley Wiggins, as he became the first British winner of the Tour de France and took Gold in the London 2012 Olympics road time trial.
Over the course of this remarkable year, Sky and firector John Dower (Thriller In Manilla) were granted exclusive access to the Team Sky and Team GB rider, culminating in a feature-length film.
Bradley Wiggins – A Year In Yellow is an in-depth, no-holds barred documentary that explores the life of one of Britain’s brightest sport starts. Cameras follow Wiggins as he takes on some of Europe’s toughest races and tries to balance his professional and personal life. With exclusive access to those closest to him, the film captures the man behind all the headlines and sporting achievements, from his arduous training schedule that sees him taken away from his family for months at a time to struggling to cope with enormous media pressure.
Wiggins said of the film: “It’s good that John stalking me for an entire year has paid off. This film is a great insight into my life and my experiences training for and competing in the Tour de France and the Olympics”.
Director Dower added: “The first time I met Bradley he said, “I don’t know who me is”. To be able to follow him over the last year, as he attempted this extraordinary double of the Tour de France Yellow Jersey and the Olympic Gold, and discover who he is was one of the highlights of my filmmaking career”.

Re: Sports Thread
Doogs, there is a reason for everything. Even for sickness!
Is love the best medicine? Laughter? Nah, it's cycling
Well I really like cycling - just to watch, don't actually ride; running is the only endurance stuff I've done - and especially the Tour De France. Wiggins really did have the most amazing year. I am not sure if it was mentioned in the doco, but he won three one week races before the Tour De France. Nobody had won the lot in the one season.
So it sort of was a YEAR in yellow!
I laughed at Bradley WIggins - a rider for Team Sky - being on sky. Fancy that
Oh, and Doogs, if you've never watched the grand tours it's definitely best to start with the condenced version of a doco. Stages can go for five hours (though the coverage lasts about three) and much of it can be very boring, even for enthusiasts!
Actually it is probably like waiting hours for that to fly into range, or for that loveable to come out from hiding :)

Yes GR, that races he won were mentioned, it gave the whole team and BW a huge boost that he could win the TDF this year. You see lovely shots near the end of his boy riding about in their garden once they get home in Bradley's Yellow jersey
Highlights of the races definitely sound the thing for me

Well done to Andy Murray for reaching the final of the Australian Open. Tough final ahead against an on fire Novak Djokovic but fingers crossed that Andy triumphs

Re: Sports Thread
Good taste That Murray is kinda boring
Though admittedly an outstanding player. Wouldn't begrudge him taking his second grand slam tomorrow. But I favour Djokovic slightly given his extra day rest and incredible semi-final form.
That was no djoke
Or perhaps this comic should join a Swiss maestro in retirement
