Cam not working again for me Giraffe Cam - Page 4 615959 Mad

Wee bit of info on a Giraffe giving birth . . .

Birthing and Parental Care

Giraffe gestation lasts 400–460 days, after which a single calf is normally born, although twins occur on rare occasions. The mother gives birth standing up. The calf emerges head and front legs first, having broken through the fetal membranes, and falls to the ground, severing the umbilical cord. The mother then grooms the newborn and helps it stand up.

A newborn giraffe is about 1.8 m (6 ft) tall. Within a few hours of birth, the calf can run around and is almost indistinguishable from a one-week-old. However, for the first 1–3 weeks, it spends most of its time hiding; its coat pattern providing camouflage. The ossicones, which have lain flat while it was in the womb, become erect within a few days.

Thanks a lot for the info Doogs, I knew they gave birth standing up but I had no idea the calf spent that time hiding so learnt something new today Giraffe Cam - Page 4 768480

Just checked on Autumn and her stall is empty, so she is obviously outside at the moment.

It would be a shame SM if you missed her birth as you have been watching her, fingers crossed she has her calf soon.

Autumn seems more like the Dad pacing up, and down outside maternity than a mother to be. Still doing the same thing, I hope tomorrow, but would prefer Monday when I'm off, and can get some footage, and pics.

Something may be happening Guys, been checking on Autumn while I've been on, and she's now constantly going round in circles, and stretching her neck, and head up as though she's feeling something, the door is open, and she's been out, but straight back in, and circling again.

Go to go off now for a couple of hours, but will check back after

Thanks for the video WS and for checking so early into this morning Very Happy
