I've noticed over the last couple of Days with taking Pics. That we've got a pair of Nuthatches, not one as I thought. I've seen them both at a couple of times. It will be fantastic if they breed in the Spring, and we get lots of little Nutters , and if the Long Tailed Tits breed as well that would be great

I thought this might help people think of what other food they can put out for Birds

Useful info there WS - thanks. I hadn't thought about cooked pasta and rice so will add that as we seem to eat a lot of both.
I've just been out and topped up everything for the birds, luckily we have 3 apple trees so there are plenty of apples lying around, but we are really getting through an enormous amount of food each day so it's great to know what else we can add !

I look forward to your little Nutters in the Spring WS and thanks so much for the info you posted on feeding ideas.
I HAVE BRILLIANT NEWS SOMEONES EATING MY FOOD obviously I have been at work so have no idea who it is but the food is going. At the moment the fav seems to be the Seed and Insect Suet treat but the peanuts have been nibbled and also the fruit and insect slab thingy. I am just sooooooo pleased someone is visiting, it's just a shame I don't know who it is but hopefully they will keep coming. I have just topped up all the food and done the water again, so keep your fingers crossed that I will see who it is. I reckon the weekend will be my best bet but for this evening, I am just so delighted

Fantastic news Littlewid - that must mean lots of visitors, and then more and more will come, how exciting. I bet you can't wait for the weekend to see who they all are.

Brilliant LW. I'm so pleased you've tried so hard. Once they start coming they will keep coming. Dont top up to much at the start they are always a bit wary of new things. Wait for them to get used to the feeders, and top up if it really goes down, but I think you will have lots of little visitors now

Thanks Lai and WS I realy am so chuffed even though I don't know who's been feeding, it could be little birds or even huge seagulls or Pigeons but at least it has been discovered. I truely hope it's the little birds and can't wait for the weekend to find out I will take your advice WS and not top up too much to start with......don't want to scare them off.

Well my visitors have been back again today, they have had a good old feast so my little cafe is well and truely open . Still not sure who is feeding but someone is and having a good time as well.
Before I went to work there were two Blackbirds drinking from my water feature. It's made from old railways sleepers and has two large balls in it that has water running all the time and they were standing on the balls drinking the water as it spurts out. I will try and get some pics over the weekend if possible but for now i'm just still so happy

Re: Our Feeding Stations :):)
that sounds great
not suprised that the blackbirds are there first as they are such curious birds. wouldnt suprise me if you have a robin visitor to as that was the first and still is my regular visitor that I have
I actually have two robins visiting me and I know that they are very territorial but it looks like they have made a bit of a truce and they take it in turns visiting. A few time they arrive at the same time and one always backs off and flies away

Thats great news LW, told you once they found it they would stay. Looking forward tp your pics of the Blackbirds, perhaps one's the Baby one you put back up in the tree ?.
We had 2 Robins a few weeks ago PPH, but as you say they are so territorial they sometimes fight to the death, and we only seem to have one now.
Another tip on filling up your feeders, when your doing nuts or seed let them get quite low before you top up. Tip the seed/nuts that are left into a container. Fill up with the new stuff, then put the remains of what was left on top. This stops the older food getting bad, and in wet weather going moudly

Re: Our Feeding Stations :):)
It would be wonderful to have a Robin PPH. I did see one in my garden a while back but it never went to the feeder, but maybe it is him who is visiting but there has to be others as well as the food is really going like hot cakes now.
I'm glad your two Robins have made a truce and are living happily in your garden even if it is at different times sometimes.
I don't mind the blackbirds either, it was two little Blackbirds I rescued earlier in the year, it would be nice if it was them that was visiting me.
Just caught your post as I was posting WS and we have the same thought about the blackbirds, it would be lovely wouldn't it.

Thats a good tip WS. The pellets are going like mad and the fat bar thing but the seeds and nuts are slower, so thats good advice

Another little tip, if you want to see whats visiting your feeders, when your in. Try putting a handfull of sunflower seeds in the tray on your feeder. I've found on mine that really gets the Birds going, especialy in cold weather. They are back, and forwards like yo yo's

Oh WS and I binned an over ripe pear and banana yesterday. Anything like that will be going to the birds in future!

Re: Our Feeding Stations :):)
Just had to replace two feeders today, the big birds like hanging off the nut ball and completely destroyed it, when i came back later with a new one all the nuts on the ground had gone - we've also had to replace the sunflower seed container, it seems it has also had too many birds swinging from it.
The good news today is our nuthatch is back, in fact we had every little bird this morning apart from our bullfinch, so a busy day out there on the feeders.
