Re: Goveners Camp Masai Mara
Thanks Doogs for the links. It's really good to hear that there are quite a few Cheetah sightings after all the bad news. Great to see Siena, and the Cubs, and that she is still suckling. That must have been a sight to see the Hippo lift the Wildebeast out of the water

From FB 05/09/2012 - Governors Camp Collection:
An elephant family get playful on the riverbank opposite Governors Private Camp. As one youngster tries to climb back up the bank an elder in the family tries to playfully get in his way and obstruct him, annoying the young elephant much to the elder's amusement. A great sighting from Governors' Private Camp

It's great that Malaika's Cub is learning so early, still along way to go before he's independant, but it's a good start. Just goes to show what a good Mum Malaika is. One of the people who commented says she has seen Pauls Video, it would be great to see that, but I could'nt find any link.
Thanks for the update Doogs

Latest Update & Pictures via FB (10/09/2012)
Photos of the Wildebeest crossing yesterday although many crossed at two crossing points. The BBC were there filming with a camera copter.
The four Musketeers are not far from the Woodlands at the Marsh and have
been seen with the Siena and the six cubs, as can be depicted in the photo
Morani accepts these cubs and this behavior is known as altruistic behavior.
Many Topi now with calves and also Warthog Piglets are still being born,
Lion have stated to realize these piglets are available so the four piglets
that were being seen at the causeway are down to one. There is a picture of
a pair of Saddle billed storks and the one with the yellow eye is the
female.
Giraffe can be seen feeding off Balanites with many trees on the open plains
and to include the Gardenia are kept pruned by Giraffe.

Re: Goveners Camp Masai Mara
Another update from today (10/09/2012)
"In the last few days we have had a reasonable amount of rain a total of 45 mm and this has brought on a green flush particularly noticeable on the shirt grass plains in the Masai conservation areas, the Wildebeest like this short green grass and so do Zebra and Thomson Gazelles and the likes, it is similar to is at Bakery!!
Wildebeest are spread out across the Maasai conservation areas ,Rhino Ridge and Topi plains.
On a walk yesterday we saw an estimated 3,000 wildebeest build up on the Olare Orok River and cross in our direction we sat quietly and waited as they ran all around us while crouched behind a fallen tree, it was a great 30 minutes. There has been much activity of Hyena killing and preying on Wildebeest and it is not unusual for a single Hyena to run down and kill a full grown Wildebeest - Patrick Reynolds Manager Il Moran Camp, Walking Safaris Guide.

Re: Goveners Camp Masai Mara
Thanks for the link to the photos Doogs, and also to Roberto for sharing them. Really great shots, love the Cheetahs, and at first I though the two Giraffes were Males having a tussel, but the one on the right looks much smaller, so either female or young male ?. That lion looks flat out
Not sure I'd have been brave enough to crouch down behind a tree while all those Widies ran around me, I'd have been way in front of them

Re: Goveners Camp Masai Mara
what a fantastic clip that is. Malaika does so well do keep the Tommy alive for her cub to kill off. I must admit I didn't think he would be able to do it, he looked so small compared to the Tommy but well done that wee man for finishing off the job - wouldn't be surprised if that was his first kill.
I know it's not nice to see these things, especially the 'cat & mouse' scenario but to me it is wonderful to see this cub growing up and learning how to survive Malaika is certainly teaching him well.
Well done to the guy filming as well, he did a great job

A few days ago our guides were only seeing 5 cubs from the Marsh Pride and we were worried and then the sixth cub appeared again! It has a lot of Character, they are offering delightful photo opportunities for all guests. Two Serval cats have been seen near Paradise and also a female pregnant Cheetah near Rhino Ridge, we think she had come down from the conservancy in the north east with pressure form Livestock can cause these Cheetah to move further afield. A few Ostrich Eggs have been seen recently and one nest had 16 eggs sadly two days later there was nothing but shells and this is typical Spotted Hyena Activity. Ostrich's can lay up to 20 eggs while the average weight is 1.5 kg and incubation period lasts a little over 40 days. Photos are courtesy of Marc Holzaph
