Re: The Big Garden Bird Watch
Thats a good variety of birds SM and brilliant that Wanda came and visited as well.
I'm to say I forgot about this and forgot to register, at least I have been remembering to feed them all though.
Look forward to reading everyones results

Re: The Big Garden Bird Watch
That's an interesting section of birds WS. It's a great exercise to see just who is visiting, but I would love to do a whole day as a lot of the regulars didnt call in during the hour
Our hour this morning ...........
2 Blackbirds
6 Blue tits
2 Chaffinch
3 Coal tits
7 Great tits
15 Jackdaws
10 Long tailed tits
1 Magpie
1 Woodpigeon
2 Great spotted woodpeckers
1 Nuthatch
1 Mistlethrush
Disappointing not to see the Greenfinch or Goldfinch, but to be honest I haven't seen them for a while.

Re: The Big Garden Bird Watch
Great variaty there Lai. As you say, if you watch your feeders on a regular basis I think you know you have more species, and numbers than you see in one hour. I think they give an hour to watch so that more people take part, and dont mind spending an hour watching, but would be put off by having to do it longer. Sometimes you know Birds that are regular visitiors come in at different times of the day, so you wont get them all in 1 Hour, which to some extent is giving a false reading of the numbers.

Re: The Big Garden Bird Watch
That's my point WS - the birds have times they visit, no sooner had I finished the pheasants called in, followed by the jays and so it went on.
Having said that it was an interesting hour.

Re: The Big Garden Bird Watch
Hey well done all you guys for the Birdspotting this weekend and what an amazing variety and amount of birds spotted between you all
I must confess that birds are not my strongest point and I wouldn't have a clue as to what I was spotting in my garden unless it was really obvious - doves, seagulls and pigeons !!!
Well done again all of you for taking part

It's alot better than recognising none Doogs, and we all have our seperate interests in wildlife. As the saying goes it's Horses for Courses. Oooops

Re: The Big Garden Bird Watch
Brilliant selection WS and Lai and I imagine it was just lovely sitting there for an hour watching the birds come and go, a wonderful way to spend an hour on a Sunday morning.
I'm not that clever on birds either Doogs. I love them and really enjoy feeding them but I am still learning too

Re: The Big Garden Bird Watch
Well done PPH. We dont seem to get Wood Pigeons which is unusual as we live in the country, and our sole Pied Wagtail has not been around for a long time

Just catching up with the results. What a brilliant selection we have in our gardens. It will be interesting to see the RSPBs overall results.
