Jura(not quite Jurassic but close)
Whilst in Islay we took the 5 minute ferry over to Jura,an island that boasts that it has one road, one hotel, one shop and one distillery(could have swayed my judgement here).
We went on a typical Hebridean day, they say if you can see the island it's going to rain , if you can't then it's raining.
The sound of Islay
Hen Harrier taken from the car
A Red Deer stag in "velvet"
Even on a poor day loads to see and a distillery to visit too,oh and a cafe.

It looks wonderful TB - especially the Red Deer in velvet. Not too keen on distilleries myself, that would be the only downside but as long as there's a cafe.

Apparently there's only 200 people and over 5000 Red Deer on Jura so Deer spotting is easier than finding a local person(that's my story as to why I was in the distillery and I'm sticking to it )

One of the "Paps" of Jura, oddly there's three of them,I'd always assumed there were only two(maybe my smutty mind) :)

those are gorgeous photos TB, I love Scotland and try to visit whenever I can. I also love the distilleries but as my partner doesnt drive then I can't enjoy them as much as I want to. A nice cafe is always a good thing to sit, drink coffee, eat cake and take in the view

I don't really miss England and Scotland is great if you love the out doors as you can still find some quiet spots. We are however having a week in Norfolk visiting family at the end of the month, where I hope to see the animals of warmer climes.Top of my list will be a Night Jar,they do occur in Scotland, but very rarely, also a Swallow Tail Butterfly which I don't think has ventured up here.

Great photos again TB, how close were you to the Deer ?. Love the saying about the rain, and Jura. It really sounds nice, and peaceful up there, with all the amenaties anyone could need. Mrs S drives, and does'nt drink. Whats a Cafe ?

Stunning picture of the Red Deer TB and Jura looks kind of spooky but love the picture. Haven't been to Norfolk for years but had many holidays there as a child so look forward to all those pics too and hope you get to see a Night Jar.

The Deer was about 30 yards away(or metres if you like) and was taken with the 17-85mm telephoto lens, then it was cropped to get it to down load onto the forum.Because of the number of pixels you should be able to keep zooming or cropping for at least three stops with no pixilation. In English that means you can look really close and it doesn't go squiffy. :)
A cafe is apparently where Mandy went whilst I was drinking whisky in the distillery

Thars really good no loss of sharpness on that scale. Thanks for the warning on the Cafe, I'll remember to stay clear of them if I'm ever up that way

However not all the pictures are quite as sharp, this was however about half a mile away.
Golden Eagle , it was being harried by two gulls.
