Re: Marsh Pride Updates
I totally agree Doogs, the lions have to be the hardest, with a few very exceptions, although a certain leopard is really giving me fits for the moment!

Re: Marsh Pride Updates
I saw this posted on FB and though it is not particularly about the marsh pride it is about lions in the Maasai Mara. Attempts to stop the Maasai from killing lions.

Didn't know how to embed the video on this one but the link should work fine.

Thanks for the link Ronnie. An interesting clip from the Jouberts, let's hope the Maasai lions can be protected.

Re: Marsh Pride Updates
Thanks Ronnie. Just watched this, and it needs more conservation programes like this where the Masai people can get, and see the benifit of Lion conservation. There are quite a few similar projects going on like this. I would like to see these groups that are doing this join together, under one umbrella organistion, to have a greater effect, and a bigger voice in Kenya

Totally agree WS - we need to help the lions in Kenya before it's too late

Re: Marsh Pride Updates
I agree totally with everyone. I don't understand why it's so hard for them to understand that they need the lions for their own benefit. Kenya certainly gets a lot of their income from the people who go on safari. Maybe the problem is that the locals never get to see the benefits of the tourism industry there. That is the key to stopping the killings. Like they said in the video, they need to see the lions as more valuable alive than the damn cattle!

Re: Marsh Pride Updates
Report from Paul Kirui on FB :-
"Just to let you all know, Joy the female lioness from the Marsh Pride has turned up with 3 cubs after a few months, suprisingly today the rest of the pride welcomed her to a warthog kill and even helped her chase away some 15 marauding Hyaenas. we hope she stays with them now permanently. Welcome back Joy!"

Re: Marsh Pride Updates
Update from the Marsh via Peter Rettig on FB:
“After 2 days out here in the Marsh this is a quick update on the Marsh lions. Most of the Marsh lions are accounted for, hence there is still no news on White Eye. She has not been seen for quite some time now, but there is no confirmation of here being gone. With the long grasses here in the Marsh Pride territory and across the Mara it is difficult to locate the lions, so maybe she is out there somewhere. The 4 M’s are looking in great condition, have seen Scarface but he only displayed his sunny side to me so not sure how his left eye is looking. Siena, Bibi and Charm are looking great and the 5 young females are also doing well.
Sadly Rich Smith and Simon Chebon, who are also out and about, reported that the youngest female (daughter of Charm) has sustained some nasty injuries probably from a warthog. Those will hopefully heal quickly. A few hours ago I saw Charm mating with one of the 4 Ms, sadly this most likely means her cub is gone or she has abandoned it. Since July last year not a single cub survived in the Marsh pride, Siena has lost both of her latest cubs in March this year. A sign that things still have not settled in this pride. I also saw the 4 Breakaway/Topi Plains females yesterday looking in great condition. Non signs of Joy and her gang so far”.
Rich Smith, who is a regular poster on both FB and on J&A’s Blog is currently in the Mara with Simon Chebon and with also be meeting up with Peter Rettig so hopefully we can expect some more regular updates.

what an update, I wondered where Rich Smith was. Thanks for that Doogs. Sad to read about all the Marsh Pride cubs but hopefully the pride will settle down and a new dynasty will be born.

Re: Marsh Pride Updates
A few recent updates fm Governors Camp Collection via FB:-
02/06/12 - We are very sad to announce that as of a couple of days ago, Charm's one month old cub is not to be seen. She has either left it or it has been killed. Charm is now mating with Sikio (one of the Four Muskateers) at Bila Shaka. Lets hope her next litter will be better cared for.
Also on 02/06/12 - Since losing her cub a few days ago, Charm is now mating with Sikio, the Blonde Musketeer. Scar is also mating another young lioness, all a few hundred metres apart by the airstrip!
When asked about the whereabouts of WE on 02/06/12 they replied - Unfortunately White Eye has not been seen for a while. She was last seen looking pregnant and heading in to the Masai reserve area. It is feared she may have been killed after mounting several cattle raids. Her 5 young sub-adults are still about but still hard to identify. Some have rejoined the Marsh pride. We'll keep an eye out!

Thanks for the updates Doogs. If that is true about White Eye then it is very sad news indeed. I don't want to believe it yet though.

poor little hippo that's so sad, sometimes I'd rather not know what they are having for breakfast but it's good to know they are well fed.
Thanks Doogs.
