Kenya 2012
Here are some random pictures taken this past September. They are in no particular order.
Top 2 taken in Amboseli.
They rest were taken either in the Olare Orok or Ol Kinyei Conservancies. Expect for Scar, his was taken in the Masai Mara
Amatuer pictures, but had a ball taking them!

Amateur Anna, I am not sure about that, they are stunning photo's and if you have any more random pics please post way, I so love those. The first one is amazing, what a capture, it's brilliant and I adore the owl as well and so clear in flight as well. The Ele is a brilliant picture splashing all that water, just lovely to see and the wild dogs as well, I think Lai will appreciate those too. Another favourite is the Leopard in the bush, those eyes and expression are beautiful.
Another huge smile for me this evening, thanks Anna

Thanks so much for the compliment! I am looking into photography classes to learn more about the workings of the camera so when I retire I'll have a good grip on it.

Re: Kenya 2012
Towards the end of the summer I got a new camera and it was more fiddly than anything I had used before and I have enjoyed playing around with it and learning a little more, I have not had it out for a little bit as I have not had much time but will again.
Photography classes are a good idea, Lai has done some classes/sessions and she is a wonderful photographer so I am sure it will pay off but I know others on here have also told me to play around with the camera and learn what it does and on some occassions it has worked but it also looks as though you have a real flare for photography Anna.

Wow Anna you have some cracking shots there thanks for sharing them with us. love the Cheetah shots was that a coalition of 3 ?. Amboseli brings back memories of Echo the matriach so ot was lovely to see a photo of an Elephant from there. The Owl in flight is a great shot, and I also love the leopard looking through the bush it shows the eyes really well. Thats the second shot of Scar we've seen in a week, and its really good to know that the Marsh Pride has know settled down, and have so many new cubs. I certainly dont think you nedd many lessons from those photos Anna

Thanks for sharing your random photos - they are wonderful to see. I really enjoyed looking through them.
The gerenuk standing on its hind legs is a great capture, the cheetahs are gorgeous and lovely to see 3 together. Leopards, my all time favourite big cat, and the wild dogs, fantastic. Owl in flight, great shot. Poor old Scar, lovely to see him but his eye does look painful!
Photography classes can be great, pick carefully though! The more practice messing around is better than too much theory, I think. Having said that I am off to London today and having a 4 hour session with someone that a friend of mine has found.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Some lovely photos. I particularly like the wild dog and cheetah. Scarface has to be the most recognisable male lion in the Mara!
Thanks for sharing.

Anna what a lovely varied selection of wonderful photos, really enjoyed looking at them and they are very good quality.
Loved the coalition of shot, stunning and of course any leopard shots make me :) Well done on capturing the midflight, that's not easy to do
Safariman, Scar definitley most recognisable lion in the Mara !!

Re: Kenya 2012
What Camera have you got Anna ?. For me the first rule is to get the shot especialy with wildlife, and with photo editing you can always improve it later. You dont always have time to get your settings right when something happens quickly. Its good to use settings when you know what your going to photograph, and what the conditions are, and to also experiment taking the same shot with different settings so you can see the results, and that helps you to choose the right settings in future.
There are some tips that might help you if you want to have a look in our Camera Club section on the link below

Great pictures, thank you Anna!
The leopard pics were awesome, and I also liked the elephant!
I am an amateur as well, and I don't know what the professionals would say, but I like the way your photos were composed. Simply beautiful!

Magnificent pics Anna. So clear and colourful. I am glad that I caught up with this thread. Like WS, I also really like the three cheetahs and the owl.
Oh, and posting leopard pics is a very good way to make friends around here

Whitestarling,
Right now I use a hand-me-down Sony a290. I'll take your advice and look up the camera club. I'm trying to get the hang of photoshop, it seems so overwhelming!

Re: Kenya 2012
I've not used Photoshop Anna, but I tried one thats very similar that was a free download, and I agree it's very confusing with all the different layers ect. The one I use is Studio 5.5 it was free with the software with a Cannon Printer I bought, and very easy to use, it has a brilliant Auto Enhance that adjusts exposure and colour, with options to vary it, and lots of other easy to use features. I know Lai used Lightroom 4, but I've not seen that one.

Re: Kenya 2012
Thanks for all the info on the different processing programs. I'll look into Lightroom. We have a Canon printer I'll check and see if it came with a program for editing photos. I only have a few more Leopard photos. These are from Kenya 2010.

Re:Kenya 2012
Littlewid, yes that is the same leopard. We had just missed seeing a close encounter the leopard had with a lioness. He had a bloody ear and a cut on his cheek. I was unable to get any shots of that side of him.
I apologize for the dely in replying.. I have been working 12 hour shifts at work, by the time I get home I am beat! Thank you all so much for all of the positive comments!

12 Hour shifts, you sound as bad as Doogs for working. Do'nt worry about delays in replying Anna, we have always told people we do'nt expect them to run their life around the forum, but fit the forum into their lives, I know we all understand that working those kind of hours must be exhausting, so you get your rest, and come on when you feel able to.

Re: Kenya 2012
Thanks for confirming he is the same Leopard Anna, I was scrolling the pictures up and down last night trying to check spot patterns and I was certain he was the same boy but there is always that doubt when it's not pictures you have taken yourself.
You can see in the first picture his right ear is a little bloody, the ear tufts look tinged with blood.
12hr shifts are rough Anna so as WS says, don't ever worry about taking time to get back to posts, you need your rest after long days like that and we all understand.
