Lai here is a link to the Hippos in the Animal pictures of the Week. They are performing in a zoo in Russia.......what more can be said after the post of them wanting to kill the stray dogs for the winter Olympics........Russia is becoming a country on my hate list.

I dont get it  That is just awful Littlewid. I am so sad to read that the circus also has performing macaques, baboons horses and dogs.

Mr Akhundov told journalists this week that working with hippos demanded great efforts because they are willful and lazy.

They can show a real spirit of stubbornness, he said.

But he maintained the hippos 'feel good' in the Minsk circus and are well fed.

Is he insane? I really hope something can be done to stop this. I've shared and tweeted.

Fantastic Lai, it's needs spreading about what is going on. It would be nice if one of the animal welfare organisations got involved to try and shut the zoo down. I dread to think how they get the Hippos to perform  Sad

Born Free Foundation are really into trying to get circuses with performing animals closed down, so I bet they know about this and will be trying their best to help.

The power of social media and the internet hopefully helps with things like this.

Yes your right about Born Free Lai, I will try and do a search later to see if there is anything about this zoo. I had some stuff from Born free the other day in the post but I don't recall anything about zoos, however lots of their campaigns come out when lots of the ground work has been done. Not very cleverly said there but hopefully you know what I mean.

I just Tweeted direct to Born Free and Will Travers as last night I just Tweeted which wasn't much good!

The more publicity this gets the better chance of something being done.

Had a couple of replies from Will Travers (Born Free Foundation) re the above. If you can access my Twitter account you can see his replies. Sadly it seems it is not illegal!

This is awful news, Hippos for gods sake. It's bad enough any animal being made to perform in a circus, but I cant think of a more unsuitable animal. So say they are lazy, and stuborn just shows utter stupidity they life is designed for them to chill in the day, and go out , and forage overnight. The Russians are like the Chinese, thay have no care or feeling for human beings, or animals.
Well done for trying to do something, and for raising the issue

Well said WS and as I said yesterday, the Russians are becoming one of the most hated on my list for abuse to animals.

Lai I will fire up my old phone as I can still get twitter on that I believe and read Wills reply to you. Thank you so much for tweeting him. It is just so flaming maddening that this is not illegal.........it's unbelievable isn't it.

The good thing was that in Tweeting Will Travers and Born Free and because he replied it got RT'd and commented on quite a bit so it has circulated round and we can only hope it does some good.

How horrible to see Hippos being used like that in a circus, if ever there was not an animal to perform it has to be a hippo  Crying or Very sad Mad

Well done Lai for tweeting BF and WT, so sad and annoying to hear it's not illegal  No  Public awareness is definitely a good thing in these circumstances. Will see if I can find you on Twitter for the conversation.

Lai that's brilliant that it got re-tweeted, the more people that are aware of it the better. Even though as Will said it's not illegal it may do some good in trying to stop it.

Brilliant that you tweeted it......... You the man .......woman  Distressed Hippos 768480
