Re: Our Feeding Stations :):)
Thanks WS. Does anyone else have any feeder photos? Feels like I'm taking over the thread!
Here's a few more who are still in the garden as I type... first time I've caught both doves here at the same time.

It's funny how Collared Doves always go around in pairs, sometimes you see three, but the third one always get chased off. Where we lived before a third one was attacked so badly by the pair it was injured. Some more great pics TT, like the one of the Female Great Tit. I've been posting mine in WS's Birds, just to keep a record of what species we have visiting but I'll get some to post on here

Those are all lovely photo's TT.You post as many as you like, PPH kindly turned this thread over to all of us.
I havent had much time for taking pics of my feeder and its still not very good from the house, I need to find time to sit outside and try and take some if possible.
Thanks for posting all your wonderful pics though.

Re: Our Feeding Stations :):)
dont worry about 'taking over' the thread its all about our feeders and birds. Ive had a bit of a sparrow fest today with my feeder, I had about 6 lining up on the hedge taking in turns to feed. Will have to buy a lot more mealworms as they are disappearing fast

I did notice when I was filling up the trays that with all the rain/snow we've had theyve got a bit of soggy food stuck to them. I'm going to have to take the trays in one at a time starting tomorrow and give them a good wash

Mine have gotten the same way PPH, we had tons of rain yesterday so they are looking a bit messy. Also the bird droppings have now hit some of them so its a good scrub for them all tomorrow I believe......their Sunday bath

One thing puzzles me however. Despite a huge variety of birds and several types of raptor, we are yet to see any falcons. We've got plenty of Kestrels, the Buzzards of course, a couple of Sparrowhawks and now the Red Kites, but no falcons. Given the plentiful supply of Pigeons, Starlings, Blackbirds, Tits and Finches this strikes me as curious.
Any thoughts, anyone?
Called at the RSPB centre this week end, and I asked about Falcons. The Guy said that they nest, and roost in scrapes, and ledges on cliffs, and of course as we know on here high rise buildings. They do hunt over meadows, water, and flat areas, but you would have to have somewhere high within a reasonable hunting distance in your area

Just a few shots of our feeding station today. We are still getting lots of Birds, but they're not eating as much as in the really cold weather

Those are really lovely WS, for some reason little bird pics always give me a fuzzy feeling, it's probably because they are so cute.
My feeder is a bit quiter as well but the birds are still feeding but like you not as much but it's good that they know the food is always there so when it gets colder again they know they can rely on us all.

Thanks for that WS. We are 320ft above sea level according to my mate's sat nav :) But I guess this area is too flat for them.whitestarling wrote:Tarangire_Trekker wrote:

Lovely photos WS. That's some seedfeeder. Has it got Trump or Rockerfeller written on the side?

Yes, we have a couple of song thrush here. Much to the chagrin of Jet cat, who suffers from dive bombing when he sits on the shed roof.
Watching the pied wagtails at work in the garden reminds me of the mad penguins in the Madagascar cartoon film. They go everywhere as a gang and run rings around the starlings.

Lucky you with the song thrush, we have mistle thrush but they dont visit the feeders. Pied wagtails are great birds, so inquisitive, they spend time right outside the french window looking like they are looking in, sadly we no longer to seem to have any starlings in fact I haven't seen any for a couple of years now.

I saw 3 pied wagtails hopping around the bus station this morning while I was waiting for the bus to work. They were looking for food but I didnt have any on me and I don't think they would appreciate my morning coffee

You'll have to take a pocketful of bird food with you each morning PPH in case you see them again

If you take some Bird Food in your pocket PPH. I think you'll have to change your initials to PWP. You'll become the PIED Wagtail PIPER

A Woodpecker called Wanda
YES!!! I finally caught her. And as you can see she's nuts for our birdfeeder...
A creature of habit is our Wanda, all her visits thus far have come just after 1.0pm. So today I decided to be ready for her. I only had to sit and wait with the camera for 11 minutes, then lo and behold... How sad is that? I wonder if woodpeckers have a routine?
As I type she's a couple of rows of trees away hammering at a trunk. Isn't she gorgeous? Hope you like the pics.

Brillaint TT. Those are fantastic photos, and you got them a lot quicker than I got ours. My problem is the feeder is right outside the window so I'm always shooting through glass. Ours was a juvanile male, and he always seemed to come in a morning, although I've only seen one glimpse of him lately. Your certainly getting the reward of buying your feeder now

Re: Our Feeding Stations :):)
I know what you mean WS, we've got the same problem. All my photos have been taken through the glass of the patio door because if we open it everything bomb bursts to the trees - and the cat walks out and shouts at them. That's why the focus is slightly off in so many of them.
