I bet your birds are loving all those treats PPH, they are going to have a great christmas.
Sadly my garden is such a building site and pilled high with bricks and scaffolding etc, there is no where to put my feeder at the moment. I really wanted to get it back up but there is no where safe or appropriate at the moment. Luckily my neighbour two doors down has hers up and well stocked with food so the little birds will not be going hungry.

We last filled the feeders up Xmas Eve in the morning. We have'nt had to fill them up since, because its that windy the Birds are haveing problems getting on the feeders, and when they do maage it, it's only for a second to snatch something, then they are blown off again

Re: Our Feeding Stations :):)
Calm as anything here today, so our birds are really going for it - may have to top up the feeders later.

I didn't realise it had been so windy in Wales WS, I hope your little birds are managing to get something to eat and not getting blown about too much. I was going to say the wind is better than the heavy snow but at least they would have your feeders if it was snowing but with the wind it sounds as though it's making it quite tough for them.

Beautiful day here with clear blue sky and sunshine - makes a great change from all the rain.
Your birds sound like they've enjoyed Christmas PPH our feeders are very busy, and I've just cleaned the lot as with all that rain the feed had gone all soggy and wasn't looking too appetising at the bottom.

Re: Our Feeding Stations :):)
Hi everyone!
The bird feeder has been very busy over the last few weeks, which is how I concluded we had a dump of snow and cold weather coming. The seeds were emptying within two days and the peanuts have been popular too. The fat balls have become more sought after following a quiet spell.
The sparrows have been particularly busy along with the tits. The wagtails, chaffinches and a couple of robins have been about now and again. And of course the woodpeckers are going from strength to strength. Birdcake is a particular favourite with the Pecker family, with Wanda, Warren and Wendy visiting several times a day. There is also another male on the scene, Wesley, who seems to be trying to establish a territory. They were joined with a cameo appearance a few days ago by a Green Woodpecker, Winston. He didn't come into the garden but was conspicuous in the trees at the back.
Here's a couple of photos from earlier...

Your birds are being fed well with Mr Kipling PPH, no wonder they loved that
TT your feeders are very busy and it's great to know the Woodpecker family are doing well. Great photo's and loving the names of your birds.
Do you think your woodpecker family will allow the other woodpecker to establish his territory so close to theirs?

Your being exceedingly good to your birds PPH . Great to see your photos TT, and good to know the Woodpeckers are all OK. The Green Woodpecker is a ground feeder, it would be fantastic if it came into your garden to feed, but they love ants so it all depends if you have some in your garden, great names to

Re: Our Feeding Stations :):)
With all this snow around we've had some different visitors to the garden, not so much to the feeders themselves but to the 3 apple trees.
We always leave the fallen apples throughout the winter for the birds and it's really paid off. For the last 4 days we've had large flocks of Mistle Thrush and Redwing, I've never seen Redwing before so was really excited. They are very similar (apart from the red on the wing)! but smaller.
The Sparrowhawk also noticed and had 3 attempts that I saw at catching one - it swooped so fast and gave chase but thankfully it missed I have no doubt it succeeded when I wasn't watching It's been wonderful to see them all.
We've also had more Long Tailed Tits, they only visit when the weathers bad so although I'm complaining about the snow/ice it's great to see so many birds.

Thats great news Lai, we dont get Mistle Thrush's,or even Song Thrush, and have'nt seen any Redwing. We had Longtailed Tits last year with all the snow, but this year we have'nt had any, proberbly because we, its been a lot milder in North Wales. I have'nt seen the feeders this week with looking after the Pub, Mrs S has been on feed duty. I'm really looking forward to seeing whats around when I go back home tomorrow

Got to tell you what I saw a few days ago while lying on my back in bed.
A pigeon was on the tree and had just taken off. There was a thump then muffed sound and when I looked back there was something that had grabbed the pigeon on that was left was a mass of feathers floating down to the lawn. Not nice I know, but there was no bird no other evidence just the feathers. TT then spotted on Sunday a Sparrow Hawk twice over the house. I wish I had it on camera/film as it happened sooooo fast, just to be sure what I had seen.
Apologies to those that may find this to distrubing!

Too much detail...
The incident is fine. The problem is the questions people now have about you laying on your back in bed AND looking out of the window at the same time.
I would just like to clarify I was not in the room at the time and people should not draw any conclusions from SM's narrative
Joking aside, the Sparrowhawk I saw was a quite some size. It would have had no problem taking a pigeon.

TT - good one that, and nice to know you've got a Sparrowhawk.
SM glad to hear you are resting when you can.
Our Sparrowhawk paid a visit yesterday too - tried to land on top of the bird feeder, created chaos as all the little birds flew away, gave up and sat in the apple tree. Great to see it back again though.

Nice one TT, and as you say about the incident its wildlife. They are extremely quick, and you have to be very lucky to get a shot of one, like I got last year of the one on the wall outside the kitchen window. Right place, right time, and a camera to hand
