So pleased the sparrows are back WS - it would have been awful if they had vanished due to their habitat being destroyed.

Pleased to hear your Sparrows are back WS, looks like they have found another home. I am surprised they cut the bush down knowing that the Sparrows were there and they had been there for some time but at least they haven't flown to another area......maybe because they know they are on to a good thing with you and Mrs S.

She's regular as clockwork our Wanda... I sat in the bedroom waiting for her, and she did not disappoint. Here she is, TT and SM's favourite feathered girl...
Isn't she adorable?

A great couple of visitors today, not to the bird feeders but to see who was on the bird feeders more like.
In one apple tree a kestrel and in the other apple tree a sparrowhawk - I've never seen two birds of prey together like that, what a great sight to see at lunchtime. First I spotted the kestrel it was there for about 20 mins then I spotted the sparrowhawk, it's still there just watching no wonder there are no little birds around just now
Sadly as I've packed up all my camera stuff I didn't get the shot.

As you say Lai Pai, no wonder thee are no little birds around at the moment.....very sensible little birds I reckon. Shame the camera was packed away as they would have been lovely shots. maybe they will still be around when you are back.

Re: Our Feeding Stations :):)
I wish I had seen that Lai. I love Sparrowhawks and we haven't seen one for a while.
However I'm pleased to report that this morning, when looking for our Wanda, we saw her with Warren. So we know now they are still paired up. Camera is at the ready so I can try to catch them together, but as always at the first sign of movement they are off.
With all this talk of Sparrowhawks I am feeling the need for a visit to a bird of prey centre...

I had a visit from my 'flock' of sparrows this morning. I had about 10 on and around my feeder which is great as they have been absent for a while but I think they are attracted by the berries on the hedge outside my window

Good to know Wanda and Warren are paired up still TT, no sign of any little W's then? Look forward to seeing any pics you manage to capture.
I think the Berries are still feeding lots of birds at the moment PPH, I haven't had much activity in my garden at the moment as there are loads of berries still around.

The boys are back in town...
Until today we had only seen one or two sparrows. Mainly we have had various tits and a number of finches.
Today however a flock of sparrows have been giving the good news to the fat balls. Then one decided to try the seeds, and as you can see from the pictures below, the feeder turned into the avian equivalent to Heathrow. Introducing Northamptonshire Seedport...

Those are really great shots TT, love how you've got the wings stopped in flight. We still have our flock of about 30 Sparrows, and they crowd the seedfeeder just the same, sometimes you cant see the feeder for birds. Mind you in your 7th shot I do'nt think that Sparrow is going to get much seed, it looks like its lost its head

Have you ever had that feeling you're being watched?
I did earlier, and found that my privacy was being invaded. I managed to get a photo of the nosey parker...

Great photo TT - have you noticed an increase in Woodpeckers?
We've 3 that all visit at the same time, not sure if it's Mr & Mrs and junior but they create chaos going from feeder to feeder and I couldn't believe it when one of them went for the sunflower hearts! It's one thing eating the nuts and fat balls and suet shreds but they've developed a taste for everything now

Great shot, and well spotted TT. We used to have three visit us at the same time where we lived before, but they were Mum, Dad, and Baby. Where we are now they visit one at a time, so I know we have a pair, but there may be more because they has young lasy year. Never seen them eat seeds though.

The birds are certainly back and eating their way through all our feeders - sometimes you can hardly see who's who they are in so quickly.
Mostly Great tit, blue tit, coal tit, gold finch, chaffinch, robin, nut hatch and of course our family of woodpeckers.
The buzzards are always flying around and at least once a week we see the sparrowhawk and the kestrels - great time of year to watch the birds.
How's everyone else doing with their feeders?

Mine got moved due to the building work going on and all the stuff being delivered and dropped over the fence, so I need to re-organise now it's getting colder again and the birds are feeding.
Sounds like you have a nice variety of birds visiting again Lai Pai, hopefully when I get mine sorted again this week I will have some regulars too, as long as they don't get put off by the builders and the noise.

Ours are really getting through the seeds, and nuts, but they are slower on the fat balls than last year, not sure why, but the tempretures here have been quite mild in comparison. We have lots of different species as usual, our Greenfinches stayed longer than last year, but have now gone. Loads of Sparrows, Great Tits, Blue Tits. Still got our Nuthatches, and Woodpeckers. Must start taking a few pics again

Same here WS, the fat balls are not being eaten so much at the moment, but the peanuts are going down a treat.
Photos would be great WS - it's raining cats and dogs here at the moment so no chance today!

Re: Our Feeding Stations :):)
We saw the first one at the begining of last winter, then realised there was at least a pair. We also saw young this year, and it's nice to know they have stuck around, proberbly because we put up a new bird feeder stand last autumn, and they now know there's a regular food source available

Re: Our Feeding Stations :):)
my bird feeder has gotten very busy in the last few days
Despite it being wet and windy here in the 'shires I've had lots of visitors around my feeder. Maybe it has to do with the xmas treat of dried raisins and sultanas I put out the other day
