Re: Our Feeding Stations :):)
Like the new Avatar TT, its nice when you can have one thats a photo you've taken yourself. Thats why I use the one of my White Starling.
You can tell we've had another cold snap over the last few days. If you look at the peanut, and seed feeders in this photo you can see how much they have gone down. I filled them both up at 1-00pm Tuesday, and the photo was taken at 1-00pm Thursday. Thats apart from a tray full of sunflower seed, and one of wildbird food seed, plus all the fat balls, and fat cakes

Uh oh...
Wanda and 'Warren' sitting in a tree... K-I-S-S-I-N-G.
No photo yet, but our special feathered girl has gone and got herself a boyfriend. SM and my good self were treated to the sound of some pretty intense 'drumming'. Shortly after we were treated to the sight of the two of them flying around the trees together.
The next stage will be for the pair to bore a new nest, so we can expect more drumming in weeks to come. Then in May the eggs will appear. The big worry is the Starlings here, because they will go for the chicks.
Fingers crossed we have the sound of tiny drummers by the summer...

Thats great news TT, Starlings can be a pest, but fingers X if they have young the foliage will provide cover untill they fledge at least. Love the names, we have a pair of Nuthatches, I'll have to get Mrs S to put her thinking cap on for a name for them. It could be a good spring photo wise. With your little Drummers, and our little Nutters
WS
PS We have now come up with a name for our Nuthatches. We are going to call the Female Fruit, and the Male Nut. The problem we have is you cant tell them apart unlike Woodpeckers so if we post a pic it could be Fruit or it could be Nut. It will be OK if their both down together, then it will be Fruit & Nut

I dont know if anyone else has noticed, but the feeders today have gone really busy. It's as though they know another cold spell's on the way

Loving the photo's and names TT & WS and your right WS, the feeders have gone a bit mad again, I bet they can tell the weather ahead of the weathermen, maybe we are in for another cold spell animals are very intuitive aren't they.

Loving all these piccy's and names - you lot are wasted, too much talent !!
Think we are due to get some colder / frostier weather in the next few days Lai but thankfully no mention of the white stuff, yet ! I've got quite a bit of bird seed to put out but need to get some more fat balls

Interesting that you're all noticing the feeders taking a pounding.
We have refilled the seed feeder twice in little over a week. We have also gone through four fatballs this week, half the peanuts have disappeared since Saturday night's refill and the complete slab of birdcake was gone in two days.
The sheer variety of birds has increased in recent days - and Wanda is still coming over for lunch every day between 1.00pm-1.30pm. Unusual for a girl to be on time....

Homebase do a large tub of 50 fatballs really cheap at the moment Doogs. Might be worth a look if you have one close by. Works out much cheaper than their packs of 12.Doogs wrote:Loving all these piccy's and names - you lot are wasted, too much talent !!

Thanks TT, will check it out, there is one about 2 mins from my house so that's handy I usually buy my fatballs from the £1 shop - 8 for a £1 which I think is quite good. The shop is not as handy Homebase though !

Yipeeeeee at last I've got some back up
Its good your getting alot more visitors TT, It's the Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend, so if you, and SM are doing it you'll have lots to fill in. The photo SM put up of the Fieldfare is great, and you might find you've got more than one
