Our Feeding Stations :):) - Page 20 40683 great photos WS and good name Mrs S.

As you can imagine we don't get squirrels visiting as Penny despite her bad feet is on patrol for albino and Squirrel

I agree re the feeders, it's total chaos out there, the ground tray is being filled 2 or 3 times a day, due to all the crows, jackdaws, jays, magpies and the increasing pheasant families. Anything fatty is eaten within a few hours - fortunately we don't end up with any waste, we seem to have tidy birds!

Lovely photos WS. And I love the name!!

We're getting though so much seed at the minute, in fact I feel like I spend more on bird food than I do on dog food. Shocked

We had a sad one last week, found a baby starling in our pond. We don't think it had been in there that long, possibly only just fallen in. We rescued it, left it on a nice little towel in the sun to dry off, it was doing really well starting to stretch its wings, and all of a sudden two starlings came and killed it Sad was very traumatic. It was a bigger baby, had all its feathers, certainly had fledged rather than fell out of a nest. The only thing is we have no idea how it got in the pond as our pond is covered with netting, and the holes aren't big enough for a bird to fit through. Constantly checking the pond now.

Oh no, that's so sad, especially as it was drying out - isn't wildlife brutal? Birds always look so cute and sweet and they aren't really. I bet you are checking the pond now, I wonder how it got in? Perhaps it was put there by another bird, or is my imagination getting the better of me? I found a little dead fledged great tit by the flower bed, no explanation just dead, I know it happens but it's still so sad Sad

I think you're right re the dog food/bird food Anne-Marie - i'd say the birds are winning outright at the moment Laughing

Those are such lovely photo's WS, they are so clear and I adore little Squidgy I love you and I bet he wil be Squidgy after eating all that seed Very Happy .

Such sad news about your little rescued bird AM, nature is so cruel sometimes Sad but at least you tried to save him Like a Star @ heaven

A shame too about your little bird as well Lai, it's horrible that these little ones get to fledge and all to no avail. I think it's always so sad for the little ones and must be so hard on the parents when they have done such a wonderful job of raising them.

An update on our feeding station. Squidgy, has been joined by Squashy

Our Feeding Stations :):) - Page 20 00814

But Squashy does'nt have the same table manners as Squidgy. He wont wait to be served affraid

Our Feeding Stations :):) - Page 20 00420

So to teach him a lesson I removed his dinner plate so he had nothing to sit on Our Feeding Stations :):) - Page 20 40683 , and no matter what he tried

Our Feeding Stations :):) - Page 20 00912

He ca'nt reach any of the feeders now, so he will have to wait till his food falls on the floor, like Squidgy. Mind you I have'nt seen them for a few days, so the Birds food might now be safe.

Loving Squishy and Squidgy WS, quite a variety at your feeder!

I was privilidged for the first time ever to see both the male and female greater spotted woodpeckers on the birdfeeder yesterday.

I've had a really fantastic experience to day. I was filling up our feeders for the second time affraid . Just as I was filling the Nuts up, a baby Nut Hatch landed on the roof just above my head. Then it came fluttering around my head, and landed briefly on my arm as was closing the lid. I was really chuffed.
We have loads of Baby Birds now, its getting pics of them whith how the weathers been thats a problem, but here's one of a baby Starling its been visiting the Fat Cake, and Fat Balls all day

Its that wonderful feeling of trust isnt it WS. It s was a special moment. There is a little coal tit chick that is always at our feeder now. It is where the mum used to feed it before now having left it to fend for itself, so it is always there hopping from seed to nuts.

It is a great time of year for the little ones.

Your right there SM. We have baby Coal Tits to coming to the feeders, there's so many different young its hard to keep up with them. This is a short Video of some of them this morning. Sorry about the noise its the Zoom, and it takes a second to refocus after the Zoom in or out
