A morning with Musiara and her cubs
These photos were taken early this morning, Marsh Pride Lioness Musiara took down a young wildebeest and Scar was also seen nearby hunting and many wildebeest were seen filing into the reserve from the surrounding conservation areas. 24 hours in Masai Mara
24hours in the Masai Mara, Justin flew to the Mara spent 1 night with his family at Governors Camp on Saturday, and this is what they saw, 2 big river crossing when thousands of wildebeest and zebra crossed the Mara River, lions, elephants, giraffe, rhino, cheetah, hippos, crocs and hippos and they also had time to squeeze in a hot air balloon safari too! If you want to see the wildebeest migration then this is the year to do it without the crowds. We invite you to enjoy all the Mara has to offer for 1 night or hopefully more. Here are a selection of photos from this weekend in the Mara courtesy of Justin, Patrick, Alexis and our team of Governors Camp Guides #whyilovekenya

So there's this clever lioness...
There's an older lioness from the Paradise Pride, she has stationed herself up at the Mara River where the wildebeest and zebra cross. Everyday she hides in the long grass close to one of the river exit points and BAM brings down a zebra every time. Photos are courtesy of Il Moran Camp Guest David Moore. Many thanks to David for sharing these with us. #whyilovekenya #africa #safari #lion #wildebeestmigration

Cheetah, Lion and Wildebeest all in a Mornings Game Drive
Patrick Reynolds, Manager of Governors Il Moran Camp headed out on a morning
game drive yesterday and this is what he saw:
Herds of wildebeest have been filing down towards the crossing sites. Many Topi were seen near paradise plains particularly in pockets of short grass. Cats: Siena and her three cubs were seen near the bottom end of the Marsh causeway and were with 5 of the sub-adults, both Red and Tatu were with her. Scar was laying down elsewhere although not far from them all. Musiara and Charm were up stream of the Bila Shaka approximately 2 kms underneath a termite mound, Bibi here had killed a Wildebeest and after eating some of it was seen dragging it towards Musiara and here two cubs. Musiara came down from the Termite mound followed by here two cubs.
The Paradise Pride of which three subadults and two lionesses were seen on the croton hill at the bottom end of the Bila Shaka river bed, They had also killed a Wildebeest with one sub-adult male seen eating it. This is the limit of their home range. The sub-adults are probably the offspring of the Musketeers.
The two male cheetah were seen on Rhino ridge close to the Euphorbia candelabra tree, they appeared suspicious when approaching the tree and it is believed that Leopard will often be in residence. As can be seen in the photos with the one cheetah he is very on edge and keeps looking up.
There was good vulture activity with the Lappet faced vulture or Nubian Vulture showing strong agnostic behaviour towards the other more common species. Photos are courtesy of Patrick Reynolds, Governors Il Moran Camp Manager.

Beautiful Sighting of Mother Leopard Moving her Tiny Cub
Guests staying at Governors Il Moran Camp had a beautiful, rare sighting of a mother leopard moving her tiny cub. Leopard are often very secretive cats especially when it comes to their tiny cubs which they keep well hidden. This is a female leopard we know well but this is the first sighting we have had of her with her tiny cub. Photos are courtesy of Terry Phelan, Governors Il Moran Camp Guest. Many thanks to Terry for sharing these with us. #whyilovekenya #masaimara #bigcats

Lovely shots, and a beautiful Leopard, they must have been really excited to see that, not very often you get the chance to see a Leopard moving her cub. Thanks Doogs

That's still on my safari 'hit list' WS, youngest leopard cub we've seen was Bahati but she was about 8 months at the time. Dearly love to see little leopard cubs We'll just have to keep trying

New Cubs for Madomo
Alexis our intern took these photos yesterday, his last day in the Mara after having been with us for a month, he had a great last day, he saw a spectacular sunrise and then came across breakaway lioness Madomo moving her new tiny cubs, very fitting end to a Mara stay with a full salute from David askari. Our new intern James arrives today so we are looking forward to working with him over the coming weeks. Many thanks to Alexis.

Re: Goveners Camp Masai Mara
Looks like Alexis had a great time. Lovely sunrise pic. Hopefully Madomo, and her cub will survive OK, it's always difficult for a Lioness on her own, but hopefully with only one cub to rear she will get them through OK. It always amazes me how gentle these big cats are when picking up their cubs, as shown in the the other photos

James our new intern has arrived at Governors Camp and just posted his first update:
Awesome first full day in the Mara - went out on a drive early this morning with Nelis, and with James (it seems I'm one of many at Governors'!) as our guide.
Within about 5 minutes of leaving the gate we ran into Scar and Morani walking along the track together - we had suspicions they would be there having heard them calling very near camp last night, but it was great to find them so fast.
We then moved onto the two breakaways with their 7 tiny cubs (3 + 4) between them. One of the four cubs was being particularly cheeky and repeatedly running away from his mum, forcing her to retrieve him each time - very funny to watch.
Next we caught up with the majority of the Marsh Pride, including Sienna and her cubs, Bibi, and Red. A couple more lionesses arrived during that time, waking the rest of the group up, playing with them, and grooming them.
We then headed back to the two young sisters that we'd seen playing around briefly earlier and were entertained by some hilariously playful behavior from them, before heading back to camp via Scar and Morani, lying on a mound, being carefully watched by four giraffe, who arguably polished off the shot of the day!

Re: Goveners Camp Masai Mara
From Governors Camp FB Page - Wednesday 23rd July 2014
Lions, Hippos and Birds of Prey
Another beautiful day in the Mara. The fun kicked off with a morning game drive full of lions and migrating wildebeest - we started off with a group of playful juvenile males and females wandering through the grass, before moving on to a lioness with her three cubs polishing off the remains of a wildebeest kill, although the cubs appeared to be more interested in fighting over the tail than they did in the meal sitting in front of them! We then came VERY close to my first crossing since arriving in the Mara - a seemingly never-ending line of wildebeest strolled towards the river, gathering in an ENORMOUS group right by the water's edge... it seemed certain that a crossing was on the cards - crocs were in position; untouched pastures lay waiting on the other side... but no, not today. A shame, but with so many amazing crossings viewed over the weekend, there had to be a false-starter in the pipeline somewhere... So we headed back for some breakfast, catching up with the juvenile lions en route, our morning topped off with David's much-loved serenade as we drove back through the gate!
This afternoon we had a lot of activity on our very own stretch of the Mara River - we've had tonnes of hippo around lately, making themselves known through day and night with their amazing, echoing grunts. We had hippos of all shapes and sizes, and of all energy levels - from babies running in and out and in and out of the water, to scarred adults dozing on the bank, EXTREMELY reluctant to move even when a massive Nile croc crashed the party - and fights breaking out left right and center!
