Wow has'nt Hope, and Faith grown. Faith seems realy curious about the Camera, perhaps she'll let them collar her unlike Hope who wont have it at all. Thanks for the update SM

Awww they've grown so big, and little Faith is a spitting image of Hope. Such pretty bears.

I wonder if Hope will den with Lily still? Her natural instincts are obviously kicking in with her digging a den, and technically she should be by herself now. This winter will be interesting. I hope we have another den cam Very Happy

Another den cam will be great, I can imagine the squash in the den if Hope decides to stay with Lily and Faith. Some other good news, I made a donation to help feed the volunteers who were trying to protect the research bears from being killed this season and I got an email the other day from Dr Rogers thanking me for the donation and that it looks like it has been successful as there have been no reports of any research bears being killed this year.

If this is true then this is great news for the researchers and especially for the bears

Hope's missing Sad

Very Worried

Hope is missing. When we saw only Lily and Faith last evening, it didn’t seem right, but it wasn’t the first time one of the trio was out of sight. However, our concern made us check them this morning. We found Lily and Faith but no sign of Hope. Someone saw a lone yearling at a distance, but we can think of 4 other yearlings it could be. The local bear registration station has not registered a bear since before Saturday, according to the DNR.

We’re trying not to think of the huge loss this would be to all of us and to science. We’ve jumped to conclusions before and been wrong. Earlier this year, we couldn’t get Cookie’s and Colleen’s telemetry signals from the ground or from an airplane and thought the worst until they showed up.

We’re on edge and want the relief of knowing Hope is okay. You’re all feeling the same, we’re sure. We’re putting out feelers for more information.

Nothing else seems very important right now except that all indications are the other bears are okay (assuming Donna is okay).

Cookie had a close call this evening as it was getting dark. With berries shriveled and ant brood disappearing along with hornet brood, Cookie discovered a domestic bee hive and tried to get to it through a fence. The landowner was about to shoot her when he spotted ribbons. He gave us a call. We called Glenn and Nancy and they headed for his house. Repairs were made to the fence and we’re loaning him an electric fence to solve the problem. We thank him for holding his fire and being open to an alternative solution.

Today, June and her cubs were resting in a wetland she used this same time of year back in 2007. Lily was one of the cubs with her back then and was licking up fallen aspen leaves. We have since occasionally found aspen leaves in fall scats.

Just read the update AM, so very sad, but think about Hopes life so far she has been on her own several times before and is a survivor. i have got to take hope in that.

Just check the site and FB page - no news so far.

I really hope thats not true, after all the trials ,and tribulations she's gone through in her short life, for it to end like that would be devastating

I've been keeping up with the updates and if its true then it is devastating especially when the researchers were happy that it seemed like no research bears were killed.

Hope was so independent and didnt like wearing a collar and everytime they managed to get one on she got it off again. So any hunter wouldnt have seen her as a research bear, fingers crossed she has found a den somewhere and is making it all cosy for her hibernation
