Re: BBC Autumnwatch 2011
Like a few of you, i've just watched Autumn Watch and Unsprung. Loved the bats the best and the red squirrel interview sorry if you haven't watched it yet.
What do you all think of the new presenting line up? I am pleased Martin has more involvement but I do think Michaela was a little hyper, it's the first time i'm not sure about her. Maybe she will settle down as the weeks go on. Is it just me or do you think she was a little OTT as well?

I'm not a big fan of Michaela but she wasn't as bad as I thought she was going to be. I think it will settle down as they get used to each other.
I'm looking forward to the special reports especially Iolo Williams and Jonny Kingdom

I hope it does settle down a bit, I just found her a bit bouncy and jokey but I know she does have the knowledge and interest.
I'm really looking forward to the Badger den cam, thats going to be my favourite I think.

Looks like the Telegraph liked Michaela and think she will be a good replacement for Kate. The article also explains briefly what Kate is up too.

Re: BBC Autumnwatch 2011
I think it was an improvement, the old team livened it up post odd billie, but they were getting stale.Kate(not so)Humble was starting to think she was the star of the show, that is the animals job.I wasn't expecting Micheala to be as good, did the job nicely.
I'd have shot that Gull eating the Bats, far too many Gulls around, they have no predators(except bigger gulls).

Re: BBC Autumnwatch 2011
It was such a great shame about the bats TB, that Gull would have slowly wipped out the whole colony that were roosting there. I know you and I do differ on how to manage predators and I respect the difference but I wouldn't have shot him. Sadly he was just doing what was natural to him and it was easy food source. You can get Gull scarers to put on roofs and it was a shame that something like that hadn't been used to deter him. Shooting would be a very last resort for me. I don't like Lions taking out Cheetah but it's natural to them and I wouldn't shoot them. As I said, to me the Gull was just making the most of a natural food source, it's just sad he has probably taken out the whole colony and was probably left to do so without some kind of deterant being tried.
That's just my thoughts, others may agree with you on this though.

Re: BBC Autumnwatch 2011
I enjoyed it and agree about Michaela, I am sure she will be great once she settles in, a tiny bit OTT at the beginning ........ missed Unsprung so cant comment on that. Whatever, I always enjoy the wildlife and can't wait for the badger cam
Thanks for the link Littlewid, good to know what Kate is up too.

Re: BBC Autumnwatch 2011
I think Michaela was trying a bit to hard at the start, but she seemed to settle down as the programe went on, so hopefully she will grow into the roll.
Cant agree on shooting the Gull. We made Bats a protected species, thats protected against Human interference, and loss of habitat, which is the reason for their decline, not Gulls or any other Scavanger, or Predator. Nature finds its own balance in those ways. The Gull was doing what nature designed it to do, finding its food to survive, and once it found an easy food source, its only natural that it would keep going back. Both are native species so there is no reason to interfer. We should concentrate on habitat, and non inteference by humans. Otherwise we would be popping off Jays, Jackdaws, Magpies, Crows, and any other species that predates thing we dont want them to. That would be using the sane excuses as Gamekeeprs killing Raptors that predate their Game Birds

we all love nature but sometimes we need to let nature find its own balance no matter how upsetting it is to watch

Re: BBC Autumnwatch 2011
Due to looking at our photos on Friday night I forgot about Autumn Watch I have now duly Sky +'d it so as not to miss any future episodes.
Interesting reading all your comments re the new 'set up'. Sounds like it will be a good combination of presenters although it may take a couple of shows to settle down.
Thanks for the link fromt he Telegraph LW, interesting the project that Kate is doing, should be good when it comes out. Cheers

Re: BBC Autumnwatch 2011
The comment was meant to be tongue in cheek, but on reflection, where we have caused an imbalance,I think we maybe should redress that balance. It's not the gulls fault we have plundered the sea and stole all it's food, but could we allow a common predator make an endangered animal extinct, even if it was only locally.
We are captive breeding, but that may not be the whole solution.
Maybe continue on the debate page.

Re: BBC Autumnwatch 2011
I agree TB,he does seem a bit of a character. I bet you would have loved watching those Raptors on their migration over the mountains. It would have been great to be able to get some shots of all the different species going over

Re: BBC Autumnwatch 2011
Johnny Kingdom had such passion last night. He did remind me of a giggling school boy but I think that is because he has such a love for nature, his enthusiasm just spills out.
I think this series is turning into a great one and Michaela has settled down and Chris is more relaxed and having fun as well.
