Re: Marsh Pride Updates
Marsh Pride Update from Governors Camp - 13/12/11
We have had some lovely weather these last few days. With the recent rains in late November and early December the grasses have really recovered and are nearly 3 ft high in some places. The Marsh still has water attracting many Hippo and along the verges there is some high coarse grasses which are attracting many Elephant. This morning we counted 124 Elephant with young. There are a few bull elephant who are in ‘Musth’ showing the classic temporin oozing down their cheeks. Good lion sightings again seen today on Paradise plains, Bila Shaka and Rhino Ridge. The four new males were seen at the bottom end of Bila Shaka, the one male that had his eye scathed last month is looking sore but the eye ball is still there yet he has a nasty scratch at the top eye lid and this obviously irritates him so the constant wiping with his paw will only aggravate it. He seemed very alert this morning. This morning ‘Notch’ and his 4 nephews were seen below Emarti hill and they were feeding off a warthog, there was not much left of the warthog as you can well imagine these are five very big lion. .

124 eles that is just simply amazing - how wonderful to have seen them.
So pleased to hear that Notch and his boys are all well.
Another great update on life in the Musiara Marsh. Thanks Doogs.

Sounds as though it's a good time for the eles of the Mara at the moment and yes, wow 124 of them, thats a huge lot of eles but what a site to see.
Just read back and it sounds a little confusing over Romeo and Clawed, is there definate news that Clawed is no longer with us.

Melis262 - Notch used to be the Marsh Pride male but he was ousted by two males back in 2007, Clawed & Romeo. These two boys were recently (September of this year) ousted by a coalition of 4 males (known as the 4 Muskateers) so CVlawed & Romeo no longer rule the Marsh Pride.
So in answer to your question, the males we are speaking about are not Notch. He did mate with Tamu in 2007 - not sure if this was Series 4 or not.
Hope that helps !
Thanks. I guess what I was asking is Ive heard people refer to Notch 2 on a few sites, including Jacksons. I was just wondering if this was a son of the original pride male or someone else. I'll try to find the post and copy it here.

Re: Marsh Pride Updates
Sorry for the confusion Melis 262
I found the link on Jackson's Blog in which he refers to Notch II (see below). There's just a photo, no text. By looking at the lions mane in the photo I would say it is probably one of Notch's sons and not the man himself. The mane appears too light at the top and the lion in the photo does seem to have a younger face - anyone else agree / disagree ??

Re: Marsh Pride Updates
Now this is going to put a spanner in the works !!!
Reports on FB today from a guy called Simon Chebon of the following :-
"A reliable guide on a game drive just bumped on Clawed and Romeo at the shores of the Mara river one of them looks ok but the other can hardly lift his head...he has been there for 45 minutes trying to get a better look but the location is tricky... Am frustrated the guy is unable to tell who is better than the other..."
"They are in the thicket at crocodile camp just north of little governors a long the mara river...news just in are that Romeo just work up an leaked himself Clawed is the one sleeping...hope is ok"
Hope this is true but I'm not building my hopes up too much, just incase. Fingers crossed though that it is the boys and they are okay meantime

It is very isn't it WS !!!
This was a head on photo I took of Notch in 2009 - to me his mane is a lot darker above and around his head than that of the Notch II picture. As this is two years old chances are his mane will be even darker now - thoughts anyone ???

This is getting really confusing with Romeo and Clawed and Notch and Notch II.
I am hoping the report on Romeo and Clawed is accurate but as Lai Pai says, Jonathan is usually pretty spot on, as for Notch i'm really

Also Jonathan is back in the Mara for 3 days at the end of December, so hopefully between him and Jackson we will get some reliable information.

Governors Camp Collection Update 03/01/2012
Happy New year to you all. There has been lots going on in the Mara, the four new males from the Marsh pride have been keeping themselves well fed successfully hunting warthog, buffalo and waterbuck. There is also another exciting development; one of the females has 4 new cubs around 5 weeks old. Clawed has also been seen a few times on Paradise Plains. We have also had lots of lovely rhino sightings and the area around the Marsh is now home to hundreds of elephants and their calves.

Re: Marsh Pride Updates
As far as I'm aware it's not been confirmed. I presume it's one of the lesser known lioness's 'cause if it had been the likes of White Eye, Bibi etc etc surely the poster would have said that - only presuming tho ! :)

No you are more than likely right Doogs, I am sure they would have said and silly me for not thinking that.
Its lovely that the Pride has some new members though, lets hope they all do well.
