Something that has popped into my head if the 4 males are covering a bigger area is there the chance they will take over other prides?

Post  littlewid Sat Oct 15, 2011 3:12 pm

It really is up and down here isn't it. Not good news for romeo and Clawed should they return, but I doub they will now and also a little scary that they may still find Joy and the cubs, that is still a worry. The marsh pride must really be wondering whats going to happen next, it is a very unsettling time isn't it.
Although they have really upset things and poor Romeo and Clawed are suffering you just wish that if they were going to take over they would stay around and let things settle down for the Pride......I only hope if they do stay they don't find Joy and the cubs and the cubs have a chance to grow more and stay safe.
Maybe Bibi is playing peacemaker for the pride.

Good news Very Happy

Marsh Pride Update: Clawed and Romeo were together eating a wildebeest that Bibi had killed near Rhino Ridge. Joy and her cubs are near Topi Plains and have been joined by her previous two male cubs who are two and a half years old and they are helping her protect the cubs.

I'd like confirmation from Paul or Jonathan though.

Ooooo That could be fantastic news AM, but as you say we could do with confirmation, as the situation still seems so fluid. It seems as though the family are rallying around, and its good that Clawed, and Romeo are eating. That Bibi is certainly some Girl she's getting around a bit, and good news for Joy with some protection for the Cubs
Thanks for the News AM

I've found a post from Paul on the situation - its not Bibi

Just as simon said, Clawed and Romeo are now together, i saw them an hour ago at the top of Nyoka lugga by Daraja ya Mungu. they have been together for 2 days now and last night moved into this new area. they have however, been joined by an old female from Paradise pride! now we have 3 oldies. The female is still stronger than them and could be the one that killed the wildebeests i found clawed sitting next to as you know he has few teeth left.
Romeo was under a shade not far but really in worse condition than clawed now! teh picture here shows clawed really struggling to turn over next to the carcass, while the female sleeps in the background

Hmmm that news is a bit more sobering, at least Clawed, and Romeo have a bit of help, but its sad that Romeos condition seems to have worsened, at leasy Clawed seems to have made a bit of a come back, and they are still sticking it out

My this is a complete and utter rollercoaster with the Marsh Boys. Good to hear that Clawed is a bit better but sad to hear of Romeo's deteriorating condition. I hope the food that he is getting will help him to get stronger.

I presume once the boys are better they will get out of there 'cause they will never be able to overpower the 4 new males that are taking over the Pride No

The plus is that Romeo and Clawed have found each other and have a lioness with them. I never know whether to read this update or not at the moment, it's such a touch and go situation.

Thanks for the updates Anne-Marie.

So delighted that Clawed and Romeo have found each other, they do stand a much better chance of surviving with companionship and also with the lioness with them as well hopefully catching some prey.

The picture of Clawed is quite upsetting, he looks very battered and scruffy, you can see how bad his wounds are. On the positive side, cats do heal very quickly indeed, I know that is usually with good nourishment as well but now that they have been eating he stands a better chance of those wounds healing, they have a better defence system than we do with regards infection too, so i'm keeping my fingers crossed his wounds heal and Clawed and Romeo get a little stronger together with the aid of their new lioness.

From Governors Camp FB Today:-

Marsh Pride Update:
The four new males are on the south side of Bila Shaka and they are mating with Bibi. One of these males has been bitten above the left eye but this seems not to worry him. Another male has a wound under his left leg but seems to be getting by with this.

Romeo and Claude are on the paradise side of Rhino Ridge they are looking thin and have not eaten in a few days. The remaining older sub adults were seen again near the Marsh, but they were avoiding the four males.

On the 20th two females and the three sub adults were at the Paradise side of Bila Shaka and were feeding off warthog and their piglets. One of the lionesses caught up with a sow warthog with her one piglet, she chased the piglet and caught it, the sow mother then chased the lioness and knocked her over, the lioness collected herself and quickly dispatched the sow, the interesting thing that happened next was the lioness then dragged the sow and put it top of the piglet that she had killed a little earlier.

The young cub who has joined with the four older ones has been seen again near Bila Shaka and it was on its own for some time and we were rather anxious to what was going on that was yesterday afternoon, this morning at 7.30am they were all seen playing together and the little one seems full of beans!!

The rollercoaster continues with new reports of Romeo and Clawed looking thin Crying or Very sad Sad

Another Update From Governors Camp FB Today:-

Marsh Pride Update: It seems that the four new males are in the Marsh Pride territory to stay, they are staying along Bilashaka Lugga with one of the Marsh Pride females hunting for them. Also today one of the young females has joined them. White Eye has moved to look after the sub adult cubs near Musiara Gate.

Joy is also doing well with her four cubs plus the other cub she adopted. She was at the marsh near the windmill today with part of the Marsh Pride sub adult youngsters nearby wanting to join her. About a week ago the adopted cub was separated from her for some days but they were then safely re-united.

Romeo and Clawed were last seen when they were on Rhino Ridge with the wildebeest kill but they have since moved to Paradise Plain near the crossing point but we have not seen them since and we are on the lookout for them.

What a Like a Star @ heaven Joy is I love you

Although Romeo & Clawed are no longer there it seems that the Marsh Pride are at last settling down.

Thanks for the update Doogs
Good to know that everything seems to be calming down a bit. I know its a shame for Clawed & Romeo, but the Marsh Pride were really in need of a fresh blood line to enable them to carry on successfully.

Thanks for the update Doogs. It's all sounding good there at the moment, with things getting a little quieter, I agree that Joy is such a star and hopefully Romeo and Clawed will make a speedy recovery.

Hopefully Aatish will tell us what's going on.

I Agree WS, fresh bloodline would be good for the MP and with 4 males they will definitley get plenty of it.

I'd hedge a bet that Bibi will be the first to produce some offspring with all that mating she's been doing Wink lion cub

I will have no nails left soon, i can hardly bear to read these daily updates in case something awful has happened.

I'm just so pleased that White Eye and Joy are doing so well protecting the cubs and the sub adults.

Perhaps no news on Romeo and Clawed is good, here's hoping they are both okay.

Thanks for updating us WS.

From Warren Samuels on FB :-

Hiya am in the Mara right now filming the Marsh pride saga. The four males who we have called the four musketeers have not yet come back across from the other side of the river. Joy and her cubs still buried in the reeds near the windmill. Bibi on her own now and has made a wildebeest kill in the nite not far from airstrip. Other Sub adults and mother - beauty or sophie are lying up in the marsh 100metres from Joy. We have just had the heavens open on us - good old muddy Mara roads to look forward to!

Oh Lordy, this is all still up and down and makes my heart go thump with all the ups and downs.
It's good to know all the cubs are safe though but worrying Clawed and Romeo have not been seen for a little bit.
I am sure it will all settle down I just wish it would be quicker than it is, not sure how long the nerves can cope with it all. I am sure it would be easier if we hadn't all got to know and love them and some of us actually having seen them and spent time watching them.
Thanks for all the updates Doogs and WS.
