I used to watch the Golf with my dad but haven't watched it for years, seeing a bit of that clip has got the old interest going again

I love watching the golf on the TV lW - think the cameramen do an amazing job keeping that little white ball on our screens after a player has hit it :)
Hope you managed to see the rest of Rory's programme over the weekend

Re: Sports Thread
As the Olympics have now officially started I thought we should resurect this thread for all us Olympic nuts.
Totally loved the opening ceremony yesterday evening but wasn't prepared for it ending when it did......a tad bleary eyed this morning I thought we did ourselves proud, it was inventive and just brilliant.
So looking forward to all the track and field events plus the Swimming and Rowing.

Re: Sports Thread
It did finish a bit late LW, we both stopped up to watch it, and Mrs S was by the end, but we wanted to see who lit the cauldren. We thought it was brilliant that the honour was given to the 7 young athletes. Great idea. The ceremony was certainly different, and we enjoyed most of it, there was no way you could have topped Chinas, by following the same format so it was a good idea to do something completely different, and very British. Mr Bean The Queen , and James Bond David Beckham, Steve Redgrave We thought the cauldren was brilliant, and very beautiful. The only thing that spoilt it for us was the end. we thought it was very Pauly performed.

Re: Sports Thread
Good idea Littlewid. We watched the opening ceremony, absolutely brilliant apart from Paul M at the end, why oh why did they do that? He was off key and really it just was a shame.
We've watched bits and pieces today, so many options and so little time. Team GB will be doing us proud.
We've tickets for next Friday to the athletics and Saturday to the equestrian and I can't wait. I know it'll be chaos getting there and getting in and out but we're really looking forward to it.

Re: Sports Thread
Totally agree with all the good bits you mentioned WS, especially David Beckham, he so deserved a part in the ceremony and I am with you Lai on P M, why on earth do they keep churning him out, he is way past it.
I have been watching the swimming this evening, no medals but we have done good and a few had good swims.....what about Mark Phelps though!!!! Also watched the gymnastics and we are doing well, some good guys there and the womens football team did fantastically well. Shame about the cycling, I never realised it was so tactical.
So excited for you going to the athletics and the equestrian day as well Lai, looking forward to hearing all about it. One of the girls at work is going to the swimming and another the volleyball.
Oh yeah, we did ok in the rowing as well. Its been a good start to the games.

I also had no idea the cycling was so tactical, we watched some of it and thought we were doing well and then went out, when we came back we heard we'd blown it, I had no idea there were tactics involved.
Hoping to catch some today in between other things.
Come on team GB

Spending all the afternoon watching the equestrian at Greenwich Park - what a superb venue.
Come on team GB - they're doing well so far, just waiting for Zara Phillips in 10 mins.

Re: Sports Thread
I have not seen any of the equestrian but I think we are doing ok from what I hear.
Watched the swimming yesterday and well done Becky Adlington for the Bronze. Shame the diving went wrong today but from what I understand it wasn't down to Tom, we had three brilliant dives but the third was off, such a shame and more so that I missed it as I was at work.
We re doing really well in the mens gymnastics, so I hope they a medal as they are working so hard.
I am so totally addicted and will be watching the swimming this evening.

Re: Sports Thread
Good idea to resurrect the Sports Thread for the Olympics LW
I knew I would enjoy the coverage on BBC but I will admit I didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I am so far. It's great to get so involved in some sports you wouldn't normally (i.e. archery, volleyball etc etc) and of course to cheer on any Brits there are involved, they are certainly getting a wonderful reception irrespective of which sport they are competing in, must be such a buzz for them.
Lucky you getting to watch the Equestrian this afternoon Lai and I'm VERY envious you are off to see it this weekend at Greenwich Park that will be totally amazing, as will the athletics on the Friday Have a fabulous time
Well done WS for spending time with Mrs S today, there's plenty of other days to watch the Olympics

Re: Sports Thread
Wow so much has been going on. Our ladies footie team are just storming and won their match at Wembley today against brazil......well done ladies
Team GB in the Equestrian did brilliantly today I thought and got a good Silver medal, it was so great to see them interviewed this evening, they were all so happy.
The swimming was great this evening, loads going on, it was a hectic night and there is still lots more to come.
I love the reception the team is getting but the whole event is just so exciting I cant wait for all the indoor cycling to start and I believe we did well in some of the rowing today.
Honestly it's just so hard to keep up with it all, sadly missed the ladies gymnastics but I dont think we got a medal today.
If anyone has any news on whats been happening please post, I just love it

Re: Sports Thread
The Girls finished 6th in the gymnastics, which is their best result in the modern Olympics, they have moved up two places from last time. Great the the football team beat Brazil, thats a really good result for them, and us. Fab we got a Silver in the Equestrian, they did really well.

I was glued to the equestrian so didn't catch anything else - sorry no reports from me
We're 21st in the medals table with a silver in road cycling, silver in equestrian, bronze in gymnastics and bronze in swimming but more than that I don't know.

Re: Sports Thread
Helen Glover & Heather Stanning get GB's first GOLD, in the rowing. We got a Bronze as well in the Mens 8's. GB is now upto 14th in the Medal Table, but the Girls are really showing the way. Lets hope Wiggins can get a Gold in the time trial this afternoon
WS
Re: Sports Thread
Good old Wiggins did it, he got the Gold, at long last Team GB have taken off and I am sure we will get more, I think we will do well in all the cycling and rowing.
Thanks for the update on the girls gymnastics WS, they had tough competition.
I am now also itching for the track events, that is my biggest love, in my school days I used to run the 100metres and 800 metres for my school and also did the high jump, even though i'm only titchy I was actually very good, which did amaze me, I also played Hockey.......where did it all go wrong
Swimming again tonight
