Re: Thingys In The Sky
Love the frame round it WS it finishes the picture off. Can I be bold enough to suggest either a dark grey frame or an off white colour, they may just show of the blue sky and also the hill and dark water at the bottom......just a suggestion and you can tell me to shut up if you like and the colours may not be right anyway

Re: Thingys In The Sky
Brilliant WS, my suggestion of grey is perfect, it really does show the picture off beautifully, its a stunning picture and now its framed it looks like a picture you would buy and hang up. I think you could have started a trend with us all framing our pictures and you've started us all off with real classy one

Beautiful teamwork WS and LW
You both used your grey matter well
I could only see that because of those binoculars

Re: Thingys In The Sky
I really posted the pic to show what you could do with photos that dont turn out like you'd want them to. When I took the photos the sun was directly in the lens, and they turned flat, and lifeless, I was going to delete it but then thought I'd play around with it with the photo editing programe I have. This is what it looked like before.

Re: Thingys In The Sky
WOW, it's like two completely different photo's WS, although seeing them both you can piece them together. The first one is an nice lanscape picture but you are right, it doesn't hold the breathtaking element that the altered one does. It is amazing what you can do and I am not sure everyone (dont mean on here) would own up to altering it, they would just take the praise for the pic, however, I am sure a few of us may now fiddle with our pics to see if we can be as clever as you

Re: Thingys In The Sky
Great comparison WS. I confess to using Lightroom 4 but don't really tweak my pics much, I crop them and make some black and white and some times change the exposure a bit if the light was fading but I don't have the energy to go through them one by one removing blades of grass etc. Some people do!

Re: Thingys In The Sky
There's nothing to confess to Lai, virtualy all proffesional photographers will use photo editing programes at times, they are just another tool in photography. When I first started as an apprentice phtographer we used enhancing techniques. We used a chemical that would lighten prints where the negative had been over exposed, and when printing from an enlarger we would use paper with a hole in to give different parts of the print different exposers to balance black, and white areas like a grooms dark suit with a brides white dress so that the pattern would show on the dress without the suit looking like a black blob, we also used a chemical to make prints look aged. Very basic as everything we did was in black, and white, colour was sent away. So as I said enhancing is just anthoer tool in the photographers armoury.
I do the same as you mostly use it for cropping correcting exposure, and I also have a sharpening tool that will make the shot sharper if its slightly out of focus. I do use cloning, and painting out, but only on special photos where it needs it to make a shot better, like a friend of ours had a family shot at a night out, and there was a persons head right in the middle of the group behind them spoiling it, so I took it out replacing the head with the same background behind them, so it turned it into a nice family group, and sometimes as a bit of fun changing pics. I agree though I would'nt use it on every shot just specials, especialy as when your away you take photos like you you'd never have time to show them

Re: Thingys In The Sky
I keep forgetting this thread
So at the moment the International Space Station is passing over
http://www.meteorwatch.org/
and dates in February when it is passing
http://www.meteorwatch.org/iss-uk-passes-february-2013/
We watched it last night with our binoculars, although it was so bright you couldn't miss it! I didn't try a long exposure photo but might tonight if the sky is clear.
