I have been trying to find out if there's a central data base for captive breeding Amur Tigers in Zoos. I've sent an email to the Zooalogical Society London, so I;ll see if I can get a reply

This a Documentary about the Amur Tiger through three decades in Russia, the reasons behind the rise, and falls in its numbers, and what was, and is being done to help the Amur Tiger. It shows them in their natural habitats, with some wonderful shots. There are also some upsetting scenes that show them being hunted in the 1980's, but not to graphic. It is really something you should watch to appreciate what has happened, and where the Amur Tiger is at today. It's just under 40 mins so you do need to make time to watch it, but I feel it is well worth it

WS, thank you for the video! cheers

I watched it , and at first it made me sad, seeing them killed, but in the end I got a feeling that there is still hope.

I just hope that people will not forget... getting folks enthusiastic is one thing, but it takes a lot of persistent work and education to keep it that way. That's where also the wildlife parks and zoos have an important role, and I doubt that the conservation work would not be so successful without them.

Your right CC it is sad to start with, but as it goes on you start to hope that things can be done to make the future better for the Amur Tiger. One disapointing thing is, its the NGO's that are doing all the conservation work. The Russian Government is not really getting involved, especialy with the one thing they could do to really help, and thats restrict the logging. I'm begining to think that habitat encroachment, and its devastation is a bigger problem than poaching

Cremecat that was just fantastic, I loved all the head rubbing that was going on and they seem so at ease with each other, fingers crossed there will be little cubs very soon.

Hopefully I will be back at Whipsnade this summer, we are trying to sort one of the lodge stays for the weekend, so you never know, there may be cubs by then Very Happy

WS, I will have a look at the video you posted over the weekend when I will have a little more time.

I really hope you do too Cremecat. I imagine it will be very sad when he leaves but that is what happens to all the wonderful cats that are helping to sustain their species. Wow that seemed easy to type but if it was me who had actually seen him for real and then had to know he was moving to somewhere I may never see him again, I wouldn't have typed that so easily No

I heard he will be transferred to Tayto Park in Ireland, and very soon - maybe already during March.
Tayto Park is a family theme park, but they have also a zoo area. I have found some information of it, but still... I hope Czar will be happy there. silent

Lara will move to Krakow Zoo to be a part of the European breeding program.

I was a little surprised when I heard that they will both leave, and also sad. The Zoo has to do some repairing in the tigers enclosures, and after that (maybe some time next year) a new Amur Tiger couple will move in. Crying or Very sad
