Some really lovely photo's there Doogs, thanks for the share I also checked out the Lioness who had been speared, that was a nasty wound on her paw but at least the vet sorted her out and hopefully she is recovering well now.

I must admit Lai, whenever Governors Camp put photos from guests or guides on their FB page they are usually very good

Re: Goveners Camp Masai Mara
I've been slacking here so there's lots of good updates and photos to catch up on . . . .
Wednesday 22nd January 2014
Lions, ellies, serval cats, hippos and birds!
Latest client photos courtesy of Steve Clark guest at Governors Il Moran Camp. Here are a selection of Steve's wonderful photos from his game drives this week, among them they show lionesses Lippy and Sila with Lippys' two cubs, originally Lippy had 3 cubs but on the 16th of January she lost one, becoming separated from the rest, when the lioness encountered other lions from the Paradise Pride, in the ensuing chaos the cub took fright and took off! Two days later there was a sighting of the cub not far from Lippy but they so far have not re-united, rangers have been informed and for the safety of the cub we are hoping the family manages to re-unite. Many thanks to Steve for sharing his photos with us.

Romi & Cub
Having found a kill they'd made, being kept in a tree between the Marsh and the forrest we waited almost a kilometre away to see if they would return to it. For almost two hours we waited, watching Lippi and Sienna sleep in the afternoon sun. Until Julius (a guide from Little Governors) said he could see a Leopard just emerging from the edge of the forrest. We drove to the tree with the kill - where it was undoubtedly heading and watched it move through the grass, climb the tree and relax in the branches. Julius identified it as Romi's cub, who is now a little over 2 years old and will soon be moving on from its mother - It is yet to be named (and so I have suggested Will!!). As I thought it didn't get any better than this, Julius said that he could see Romi sitting on a log watching her son. She was very content to let us watch her and it felt like she was posing for the camera! An incredible evening!

Toto Time
Be it children, cubs or calfs - if you are young, in Kenya you are known as a toto. The plains are currently teeming with young gazelles, elephant calfs and most exciting of all, Lion Cubs. Sienna was seen with her cubs over in Billa Shaka this morning. It was great to see them all looking so healthy, and even better to see her surrounded by other members of the Marsh Pride, there to look after her and her new family.

Lippys cubs have a close encounter with a buffalo
The drama continues for Lippy's cubs. A few days ago Lippy and cubs were seen near the north end of the marsh, they encountered some Buffalo and retreated into the marsh, the lionesses then left for the open plains and left the cubs on their own in the Marsh. One old bull Buffalo followed in and tried to source them out, unfortunately if buffalo get the chance they will kill lion cubs, the cubs disappeared quickly, the Mother Lippy noticing the drama returned back only to be confronted by Buffalo, she made a quick get away with the three cubs and sauntered back over towards the north Masai plains. Thanks for the nudge Doogs. That makes a change it's nearly always the other way round with Leopards being chased, and harassed, even killed by Baboons. I remember Laquadema in Eye of the Leopard being attacked by them

Oh yes, remember that as well now that you say it WS. You see many of them on safari and they always look so cute and placid but I'd hate to get on the wrong side of one of the big males

Serval - Jackal stand off !
This mornings game drive, while providing the usual sightings of Lion and Elephant etc. we came across this unusual scene. To see a serval cat in the middle of the day is rare enough, but we found it mid face off with two black backed jackals. There was something, although we could not see what, that the serval cat was trying to protect in the grass - probably a small kill it had made. The Jackals would make occasional attempts to get close, before the Serval who had puffed itself up to seem as big as possible, would growl at them making them back off. We saw this happen a number of times, before the jackals eventually became disinterested and moved away.

Buffalos, Hyenas Giraffe, Ellies and Lions
These photos were taken by Jack Swensen on his recent Little Governors Camp Safari. They include a close encounter between some buffalo and hyena, it seems the hyena went for a young buffalo calf and the mother and another came to the calfs rescue. Many thanks to Jack for sharing these with us.

All in a mornings game drive from Governors Il Moran Camp!
These stunning safari photos were taken in one mornings game drive from Governors Il Moran Camp and show just what you can see at this time of year in a morning in the Mara. The game drive included a sighting of two male Leopard who were sizing one another up, both had a tiff and received minor scratches. The younger of the two males then went and rolled in Buffalo Dung. Photos are courtesy guest Dave Roberts. Many thanks to Dave for sharing these with us.

Doogs I am still in need of a massive catch up here which is quite embarrassing but I am really going to get there. I think I just need to set the time apart for it and if need be, ignore anything else on here and just get down to it because I am missing out big time.
