Re: Meet WS's Birds
Thanks Guys. I got a nice front view of the Starling today
I thought I would compare it with my White Starling. Not as colourful, but so unusual

Re: Meet WS's Birds
It was pouring down with rain at the time when I took those photos. I also spotted a Guillemot, diving for Fish just off the sea wall. I waited till the rain eased a bit, then went to try to take a photo, I had my camera under my jumper to stop it getting to wet. Just as I got there the Guillemot surfaced with a Fish in its beak, and swallowed it just before I could get a shot off, then dived again, that would have been a great shot to get. Unfortunatly when it resurfaced, it was really to far away, and with the rain, and using max zoom I could'nt get a focused shot. Grrrr. Its amazing how long they can stay under, and the distance they can move

Re: Meet WS's Birds
Good photo and it shows the rain. Can you shoot on continuous WS? You may get 3 or 6 shots slow speed or high speed, good for wildlife and especially birds

Re: Meet WS's Birds
It may not have been the shot you wanted WS but it is a lovely photo, I love the blobs of rain drops everywhere, it really brings it to life.

Re: Meet WS's Birds
Neither of you spotted the deliberate mistake it was a Cormarant not a Guillemot I'm a dumbo could'nt remember the name. Yes Lai the Camera has a continuos shot feature. You can set it for 3 5 10 or continous untill the memory card is full, at high speed or low, but because of the rain I did'nt want the Camera out to long to do the settings, and take the shots

Re: Meet WS's Birds
so it is WS - well spotted must have been the rain !
Probably a good idea to keep it dry WS and if you ran it until the memory card was full you would have plenty to sort through but it's great you can set it for 3 5 or 10 that gives plenty of scope.

Re: Meet WS's Birds
It does Lai, but as you say if the memory card was full, its a 4SDhd one the number of photos would run into the hundreds I think. The other problem was that the Comorant can stay down for quite a while, and you never know where its going to surface

Re: Meet WS's Birds
Sorry Guys I know most have you have seen this in Birds of Prey, but I need to put it in my Birds post, as it's another species to my list
Sorry for the circumstances of getting this shot, but it's very rare to have a chance of getting a shot of a Raptor like this, so I had to take it, and share it. As we all know things can't always be cuddly, and nice. You have to show wildlife as it is. I was just making my flask of coffee for work when I spotted this Male Sparrow Hawk on the wall outside. Rushed for my camera, and managed to take these.

Re: Meet WS's Birds
You know me and sad pics WS but he is a magnificent bird and they are true life pics and to catch a raptor so close up is amazing. The good thing about being able to scroll up and down on a PC is that you can scroll to miss the sad bits

Re: Meet WS's Birds
I know how you feel LW. I did consider brushing it out, but sometimes you just have to show it how it is. We are Wild About Animals, but it also means we are About Wild Animals, and that's how wild animals survive.

Re: Meet WS's Birds
Don't worry WS, as I said today in the other post about this stunning chap, he is lovely. We are Wild About Animals and that is real life as it happens and if he didn't eat he would die and that too would be very sad. Life is full of things we don't like and nature can be very harsh, it's hard to accept sometimes but accept it we must but you know I would just love a world where nothing bad ever happened.

Re: Meet WS's Birds
Tried to get some shots of the Swallows coming out of the stables, but their that fast trying to get a focus on them is near impossible. You dont have time to focus manualy, and using auto focus is just pot luck, because you cant centre the auto focus square on them, because of the speed they are going. So I tried it on a multishot, must have taken about 15, and this is the best I could get
So I decided to try something easier
Not bad for a hours work, two out of focus Swallows, and a mouldy old Crow
But at least it's another two species to my list

Re: Meet WS's Birds
WS - the mouldy old crow is great, they are big old birds making a hideous noise but as you say another one for the list. As least you got two Swallow photos - and as you say, fast moving birds are not easy at all. Nice to see you are enjoying your camera WS

Re: Meet WS's Birds
Hey WS, we've all seen on the tele how fast the swallows dart and fly about, so I think you did a grand job to get those two shots
We have lots of Mouldy old crows here these days, I think they seem to be larger than normal and they don't fly off when they are approached, they seem to be loud and stubborn these days. Great pics of your Mouldy old crow

Re: Meet WS's Birds
WS have you tried the sports setting on your camera. That might help for catching the Swallows.

Re: Meet WS's Birds
I have'nt posted on here for a bit, because I could'nt remember where it was, but I've got another species to add to the list. It's started coming onto the feeder for about the last week, but it's so quick then it's off. It's taken me ages to get a shot. It landed then went straight off onto the fence, just managed one quick shot through the window
Meet our Jay, I've had to crop it a bit, to bring it closer so with that and the window its not to clear
Cropped in closer

What a lovely little bird WS. I have not seen a Jay before and I am not sure if there are any round here, I certainly have not had one to my feeder before.
He really is lovely and it is a good shot, you did good to catch him Is he the only one around your place or do you think there are more?
Mmmmm is it old age setting in WS......forgetting where you have put things

Re: Meet WS's Birds
He's not so little LW about the size of a Collered Dove, but with bigger head, and beak. Its a member of the Crow family, and the most colourful, the Blue is really beautiful, the photo does'nt really do it justice. They go about in pairs or singly, this may be a this years Bird. Adults, and juvaniles look almost the same so difficult to tell them apart. They are ground feeders, so it's unusual to see one at a feeder, must be Mrs S fat recipie We have'nt seen him for a couple of days, they are very shy Birds so it's difficult to get photos or see them.
