Re: Hummingbird cam - Phoebe
They are blending in well there WS. I have just had a peek and it's really sunny there this evening and Sugar and Spice look grand, trouble is the video is blacking off this evening all the time, even the guys in Ammerica are having trouble viewing it. As soon as I got my cam up the picture went off but I have seen them and yes they are fine.
Must try and keep a close eye this weekend in the hope we will see them fledge.

Re: Hummingbird cam - Phoebe
Phoebes first Egg has hatched Actualy got pics of the hatch as it happened. I logged onto the site, and Phoebe was away from the nest, you could clearly see the two eggs
Everyone had been watching the eggs all day for signs of a pip, but none had been spotted Phoebe had'nt turned the eggs all day.
Then Phoebe came back in
She started wriggling around, and everyone watching was getting really excited, she kept wriggling, and also nest stretching for around 20Mins or so. Then suddenly jumped off the nest, and There was the Chick popping out of the egg
The first few seconds of life, outside the shell
As the Chick was twisting, and turning to get free of the shell
It must be really exhausting for the chick, Phoebe then came into brood
and I had to leave as it was really late. The news must have been flashed around as the Chat was flooded with excited people flooding onto the site.
The Birth time here was 1-15am & at the site at 5-15pm.
It really was something special to witness, and a privilage to see the start of a new life. Lets just hope these two chicks survive to fledge this time
WS
Postscript We saw them hatch, click the link below to see them fledging if your luck, they are due to fledge anytime now

Re: Hummingbird cam - Phoebe
thats brilliant WS, it's lovely they have hatched so close together as there wont be much competition between them for food and they should both grow well, cant wait till this evening to check on them both
Yep, Sugar and Spice were fine yesterday and still there, they looked rather comfortable sitting in the nest

Re: Hummingbird cam - Phoebe
Sugar and Spice have fledged but they are still around the garden. From what I can make out from the chat Sugar is doing most of the flying about and Spice is in the nest tonight. They have changed the cam angle so you get a better view of the garden but if you look closely to where the nest is, you can just make out Spice sitting in the nest, it is a bit blury but I think its beciase they are concentrating on showing the garden so you get to see them flying around and landing all over the place which is what I gather they have been doing.
Also looked in on Phoebe and she is sitting pretty on the nest even though she does have her back to us this evening.

Re: Hummingbird cam - Phoebe
Just checked on Phoebe. She feeding Flash, and Pearl OK. Flash has a longer beak than Pearl, thats how you tell them apart.
A little bit of info, the nest is the size of half a golf ball, and the eggs are the size of a Tic Tac, unbelievable.

Re: Hummingbird cam - Phoebe
I remember reading the eggs were the size of half a golf ball WS, it may have been on a much earlier update on the Hummer site but I didn't know the eggs were only the size of a Tic Tac it's amazing isn't it and on the cam they look so much bigger and so does the nest, I think we kind of forget how tiny the Hummers are.
Good to know Flash and Pearl are doing ok

Re: Hummingbird cam - Phoebe
Checked in on Emmas cam and the cam has moved back to the sugar feeder, so hopefully we will get to see Emma and her fledglings feeding and I gather a new male has also been visiting. I didn't get a picture of the feeder as no one was around and I think the host was either hoovering or cutting the lawn as there was a right racket going on.
Checked out Phoebe and saw the two chicks and then Phoebe came back to feed them.
Sorry about the ads in the photos.

Re: Hummingbird cam - Phoebe
Me too Lai, phoebe really has had a tough time this year and deserves to see these two fledge. I must admit though it was usch a surprise when WS noticed she had hatched two more eggs.

Re: Hummingbird cam - Phoebe
I spotted she had eggs first, but to see the first one acutaly hatch, and get the pics as it happened was a fantastic feeling. The reason the first chick has been named Flash, is because, we never saw a pip, or a crack. The only sign there was something going on was all the wriggling Phoebe was doing. Phoebe moved off the nest, and then the egg just seem to pop in half, and it was out in a Flash hence the name
