Re: Hummingbird cam - Phoebe
Don't worry WS, I had realised for a while it was Opal but we had got so used to calling her Pearl it was hard to call her Opal, to me she's still like Pearl Thanks for keeping an eye on them after I went off yesterday
Yep looks like another nail biting day today Lai, it's a shame we can't get to view the cam till early afternoon as we have no idea as to what has happened. I wouldn't be surprised if Flash has Fledged by the time we get to look in, he was doing an awful lot of flapping last night and as you can see from one pic he was actually out of the nest.
These two really are keeping us on the edge of our seats

Well they are both still in the nest. They are both doing a lot of wing flapping or Wingersizing as they are calling it on the chat. I'm sure it wont be too long now before one of them Fledges.
In the second picture Flash is flapping so fast you cant see his wings at all.

Well it's just gone 6.30 and they are both still there.
I reckon they are going to keep us hanging on again this evening.

WS that is a cracking video, just brilliant. Wouldn't it be so funny if they fledged like that. I wonder when that was filmed, I watched most of last night and although I have been out this morning and early afternoon I have been watching for ages again, I must have so missed that, I'm really pleased you posted that, you have to see it to believe it don't you, it's just brilliant.

OH MY Gosh, Flash has just been flapping so hard he ended up on one leg, I thought this is it he's off, but he steadied himself and sat back down in the nest but I tell you Opal is definiately trying to edge him out, she looks comfortable in the nest and seems to want it to herself.
I've got to go to bed now so WS, it's over to you for a bit now.......I want them to fledge but I also want them to be there tomorrow

Well its 12-00am and they are still in the nest. I saw them on them on the edge of the nest when you got a shot of them LW. Got another nearly takeoff from Flash
Dawn there is around 6-00am there, 2-00pm here. I'm not usualy on at that time, but if anyones around you can check in to see if they are still there. The feeling is its getting to late now, so they may fledge tomorrow now

Great pic of Flash there WS Well I have just looked in and from the chat they are both still in the nest. The last post on chat was 2hrs ago and they were all off to bed. I too can't check in at 2pm as I am back at work today so maybe if you are around Lai you could check for us, that would be great
Heres a night time pic from just now, I cant even hear Flash and Opal so maybe they are asleep whilst we are all rising :)

I will certainly try and check, I've got to be at home for a delivery between 2pm and 9pm (can you believe a 7 hour slot) so will have no excuse not to check the cams

Re: Hummingbird cam - Phoebe
Thanks for the updates Lai and lovely pictures I am home earlier than expected due to the Olympic Torch, it's coming through Sussex today and they are closing the roads round the hospital at 3pm so I wouldn't have been able to get out until about 5.30 and thats no good for Nero as he has been home on his own and I wouldn't have been home till 6, so I have been able to check on Flash & Opal. They are still in the nest and very quiet, apparantly there was some noise under the nest and since then they have virtually motionless, no-one is sure what the noise was, hopefully nothing to danger our chicks.
I will check again later but I am out this evening for a bit so all eyes will be welcome.

Re: Hummingbird cam - Phoebe
I have just heard what sounds like a Crow, so maybe that is what is scaring the chicks into silence and not moving, Phoebe has been in to feed them though just now.

They must be feeling settled again now as they have both had a massive wingercising and it was great to see but they still haven't left the nest.

Re: Hummingbird cam - Phoebe
At least you didn't have to wait too long for your delivery Lai, so that was good.
Phoebe has just come in and fed them both again, she has done that quite a bit this afternoon and Flash has just had another exercise f his wings and at one point he was one legged But obviously not ready yet for take off but I don't think it will be long before he goes.
Hopefully WS will be around this evening and keep an eye as I am going out and I bet he is the one that captures them
